Hi guys,

Which grade oil should I be using in my car and does anyone know how much it should take to fill appropriately? I'm hoping to do an oil change this coming weekend.

I don't have a copy of the manual so I'm unable to access the info in there.

Regarding oil changes, if anyone has any tips that will help me as this will be my first on a Mitsubishi, they are warmly welcomed.

Cheers

hi there, I dont know if I,m missing something but, I presume you are getting the oil from a motor factors, ask them they should know, fairly easy job, check if you need to use a special tool to undo the drain plug, (not having done one on mine yet I would,nt know), warm up the engine, park it on some where level, get a container to catch the oil, undo the drain plug, the oil should,nt take long to drain out, undo oil filter (you can get a special tool for this, but I use a screw driver, a liitle messy) I should,nt worry about the last few drops, replace the oil filter & refil checking the level as you go, when done start her up breifly, check the level & top up, job done, I realise this may be telling Grandma how to suck eggs but I,m going on the assumption you have,nt done one before, if you have my appologies, cheers, Martvin

ps replace drain plug before replacing oil!

Hi Martvin,
Thanks for the response. I have done a few oil changes in the past so I'm comfortable with the process.
I've not taken that close a look at the engine bay of the carisma so wondered if there was any advice on how to get at the oil filter i.e. from the top I guess, if the sump plug is a bolt head or allen key type etc.

Just me being lazy I guess, lol.

sorry if this post is too late.It should take about 4.8 liters of semi synthetic 10w40(UK spec only).start by putting 4 liters in and then run until oil light goes out.stop and recheck.should be near minimum indicating it will take the remaining .8liters(some may only take .5)

Just a bump to pass on the following info:

The sump plug on mine was a square fitting, 8mm by 8mm which I got a key for from a motor factor. He tells me it's a common size and is used widely on Renault engines.
