Goodyear Eagle F1's, Just got some new slightly WIDER tires

Newbie Group: Members Posts: 5 Joined: 5-August 07 Member No.: 43,169 Status: Location: Oswego, IL Drives: Lancer GTS	Hey there guys, Haven't posted really here but I wanted to tell you guys that after about 26.5k on my GTS's Dunlops I got some Goodyear eagle F1's. Some irregular tire wear was happening because after a year in Chicago with horrible pot holes the alignment must have gotten off somewhere. So I put in an order for the slightly wider eagle F1's (225/45/R18's instead of 215's) and i just got home with them today. I'll let everyone know how they go as I drive with them, they are supposed to be the best dry / wet performance tire that goes well in the snow too. Mod with a Hammer Group: Moderator Posts: 1,386 Joined: 22-September 07 Member No.: 45,539 Status: Location: Chicago, IL; USA Drives: 2008 EBP Lancer GTS	I believe 245 is the widest tire you can get without having issues with rubbing against the wheel well. Wider tires are better for MPG too, although it won't be much going from 215 to 225, but with 87 octane reaching $4.20/gallon, every little bit counts! I've been wanting to up my tire size as well, but I've only got 6K on my wheels. Let me know how they hold up against our streets :grin:

Very nice choice of tire. I was looking under Tireracks site & the top choice in the stock size would be the Pirelli P-Zero Nero's like what I have since the dealership replaced the Dunlops, but if they gave me the option to get another size..like yours, then I probably would have gone with the ones you chose. Let us know how they hold up & how they go in the rain, snow...all that stuff. :beer:

I mean to be honest I guess it was an OK tire for the car in the summer but for winter I really didn't feel safe with them. I hope to have more luck with these.

The car has slightly more grip with the 225's, but I doubt 10mm will really make that much of a difference on MPG. Either way, I'd gladly sacrifice the MPG for better grip on the roads.

I was actually looking at those F1s and also the Blizzaks, let us know how u make out.

I'm switching out ASAP and this was what I'm leaning towards. Any review on it's (a) traction (B) noise © any drawbacks?
