After reading the unlocking procedures and stuff and seen it in action comes two new questions.

Is it possible to upgrade the HDD?
If so, is it as simple as naming partitions, xferring files to new HDD, and etc?

If we were to make partitions in the new HDD and name them to the same as the 30GB one, then we can just simply move system files over to the new HDD.

As far as I researched, I've been told that almost 25GBs of the 30GB HDD is taken by the navigation and the 5GB is taken by the MusicServer. So meaning, upgrading the HDD space will only upgrade the amount of space the MusicServer can have. IOW 30GB -> 60GB = 35GB of space for the MusicServer given that the system partition stays the same size (25GBs).

I would like to upgrade the space, and of course customize anything xP. Just a cool thought.

This is a great idea. I was thinking of the same thing. I pick up my new lancer next week with navi system HDD. I will be trying the mod because there really isn't a reason why it shouldnt work! Worst case I put back in the 30gig HDD.

GREAT !!!! Please keep us posted on that mod. sounds like it would be needed if you plan to keep the car for longer than a couple of months. I mean I already have over 15 CD's in there, and would love to keep adding to my collection.

LEts us know what happens once you get your car. And congrats for the ne buy. you will love it!!!

I was doing more studying about the upgrade, it seems that this process might be easier than I thought it was the first time, but then again, that's because I know my computers well so bleh. But yes, on to the meat of why I'm posting...

I have bought myself a 80GB hard drive (55GBs of music partition). If this unlock and upgrade goes well, then our cars might as well have a iPod label stuck on it :gunsmilie:
-EDIT-
Looks like I'm just using an older laptop's HDD. I just found one lying around. So what about the 80GBs? That going to upgrade my sister's laptop =( Oh well, at least I'll have 2 extra HDDs to play around with
-End EDIT-

Currently it's shipping over so I'm going to wait for it.

The current obstacle I'm getting at is that I have a SATA HDD Controller on my laptop. So to overcome this... I need a 2.5" IDE enclosure kit, which I'm just getting off ebay.

The rest is a matter of ghosting, changing the size of the MusicServer Partition, 30mins disconnect from battery on car, cold start the system, and pray that the HDD upgrade works.

Now on to the future possibilities,

-Cheaper replacement for the HDD if it ever breaks. No going to Mitsubishi and paying loads of money to get it fixed.
-Backup HDD
-Personalization of MMCS
-Better looking map graphics
-Passenger gaming interactivity? ( )
-Possible AUX rolling video bypass... "I have 3 PS3s" anyone? (for those who don't know, the quote, look it up on google)
-Upgrading App data, Version Data.
-Car equipment unlocking??? (That'll be cool)

Other things that is possible but I'm not doing it:

-Sharing of updated map data

Anything else?
