Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum (as a registered user, at least) and was wondering if you all could provide some input on my situation. I'm looking to buy a 2000 or newer eclipse, and have looked at an 01 GT Coupe with 96K on it. I really like the car, but haven't driven it yet (will later this week) and was wondering if you think that mileage is too high to be purchasing at? They are asking for 7800, but I could probably talk them down a bit. I checked KBB, and that amount seems about on target. Anyway, it's red, leather, moonroof, automatic (step-tronic), and the general GT package for 2001. My concern is for the high(er) mileage at 96K and how long you think it'll run strong and well. I don't do a lot of driving (less than 10K a year probably) but I can't determined exactly. Thanks in advance, and thanks for the advice I've found so far!

Here's the deal. Any eclipse will be perfectly reliable if you do proper maintenance and keep all your fluid changes and so on up to date. If it calls for a tune up at a specific mileage then do it.

And the other thing besides test driving it to make sure that it runs ok, is to take it to a mechanic and have them look it over to see if they see or hear anything wrong with it. But like I said if you take really good care of it it will keep running very strong for quite a long time.

Yes, I plan to keep up with the scheduled maintenance. (I assume it's listed somewhere in the manual? and I'm sure I could find it online somewhere.)
Also, I have a mechanic that I know and like personally, so it will definitely be looked over before I purchase it. Just wondering the average experience mileage wise and such, though I know it is primarily about how well you keep up with maintenance.

You need to make sure the 60k service was done.

Just about every single car starts needing things at this mileage this car won't be an exception

Agreed.

And if he keeps up with things quite well it will last him a long time.
