I have a noise comming from the A/C compressor that sounds similar to a faint rod knock. It does not matter if the A/C is ON or OFF. I pulled the belt off and the pulley spins freely and I can detect no shaft play.
Could this be a compressor clutch problem? Has anyone had this problem with their A/C before?

Haven't heard of this before, but does it blow cold air?

Yes, it blows cold and is working properly. At first I thought I had a rod knock untill I determined that it was coming from the compressor.

If your sure the pulley is on tight and the all the bolts are tight, I would start looking for a new compressor to keep around just in case this one takes a dump on you.
