well i have been saving up for a new car and iv been starting to look and i no for sure that i want a 2000-2004 eclipse
im not sure about what motor to get i noticed the 4cyl model is about 140hp and 6cyl at 200hp that is alot more power but i was wondering what the diffrence in MPG is ?
I have heard that the 4cyl can be unreliable, is this true? and is there any promlems with either of these motors?
i think i want a manual tranny, is it a solid tranny? was there any factory defects on these cars except the black ones.
so what do you guys think should i go with the 4cyl or 6cyl im mainly looking at this car to get great gas milage and im not so woried about power but if its within 2mpg i will probly go with the V6. anything else to watch out for?
thanks alot
First off, the 4cyl is 154hp if you get a fed spec motor and roughly 147hp if you get a cali spec motor. The difference in MPG is not that much of a difference, I average on a mix of city and highway 27mpg on 87 octane gas in my 03 GS 5spd. The GT gets about 24mpg.
And the 4cyls are just as reliable as the 6cyls if yo utake care of them. I personally think the 4cyls are more reliable and know a friend who has an 01 GT and he's having a few electrical problems with it. I have put 15000 miles on my GS and no problems except normal maintenance such as plugs and wires, new brake rotors and pads, and oil changes.
And the manual in the 2000-2005 was tested and lasted 270,000 before it needed to be replaced so it is a very solid tranny.
And last but not least all the 3rd generation eclipses from 2000-2005 have paint problems but the only ones you can't notice it on are the white and silver ones cause it's harder to see the clearcoat bubbling on the lighter colors.
Anything I missed or you wanna know more about just let me know.
