Hi again
Still having problems with my 3.5v6 Shogun pinking.

Anyone out there know if the engine was made for say the asian market would it make a difference having a british ecu?

We've since discovered our new engine is possibly from overseas (waiting for supplier to confirm) The garage thats fitted our new engine has said that the problem maybe now becuase the ecu is for the british market and the engine not.

Any thoughts ideas.?

Its been nearly 3 months since I've not had transport and its driving me nuts now.

Any more help appreciated.

Thanks

Wut year again is it? many asian application of the Pajero/Shogun had a DOCH head . Also since this engine has distributorless ignition system as yurs should have , like i say , the Camshaft/TDC sensor at the back of the cylinder head plays a big role in this. Ive asked before i remember if that sensor came already with the engine of if yu had to install yur old one on the newer engine. If so was the timing disturbed. If it is a DOCH head 3.5 it makes a big deal as to , the DOCH heads are the same as GTO's with MIVEC so the cam timing and phasing is very agressive. Also if the timing belt was changed prior to yu getting the engine or after yu got it, if the camshafts are a few degrees off /apart or with the spark too much at TDC this will also cause the noise.

Its a 1996 Kit, and thanks for replying again. I honestly dont know if the sensor was our old one, or came with the recon, the guy from the garage is having a stress over the car so i've not taken the plunge and asked him yet.

He has told us that he has checked the timing and it is spot on.

I'll take the plunge this weekend and show him your replies and we'll take it from there.

Really appreciate your assistance. :-)

Is it DOCH head , they were big in the year yu have. If so the valve timing and cam angle/tdc sensor's position is important
