This may have been covered eons ago, but I didn't have a Spyder convertible then.

I know that the AC drain is draining into the drivers floor but can't find the drain.

Where in the engine compartment is it?

are you trying to say that the freon is draining into your car? or are you saying that your radiator fluid is?

in my case it is condensation from the A/C system. The drain is plugged and I am not sure how to clear it. Unlike most vihicals the drain hose is not where i can see it

the only drain that i know of in the eclipse system is the run off drain that happens to sit under the heater core.

pull your radio out and remove the panel that hides your heater core.

there is a small pan underneath it and if from leaves and pine needles its clogged it will overflow into your car through the access panel.

just pull out the leaves and whatnot and pour some water down the drain to make sure its cleared.

if its still clogged i suggest you use a air hose and blow whatever is in the down tube out.

I just went and looked this and I found a drain. It is behind the dash at the lower part of the A/C unit. There is a hard plastic drain pipe that goes through the fire wall and it has a foam grommet aroung it going through the firewall. This drain is at about 2:00 o'clock about 6 inches from the accellerator. looking at this there is condensation comming back through the firewall from around the foam grommet. The thing is that this looks almost impossible to clear the drain without removing most of the dash and console. Is there any trick or simple way to fix the dranage problem...

i already answered that refer to my previous post. if that doesn't work i suggest either dealing with it, or replacing the drain tube.(no matter how hard it looks like it will be.)

I have the same problem. Cleaned the Evap pan twice now and its still leaking. Car is running without carpet and lower dash/console now so I can track it and keep it dry. What I would suggest is taking a tube of silicone and sealing the area around the drain pipe and the firewall. My drain tube is draining some water, but when the car is running it still leaks inside around this area. My guess is the foam that mitsu used for a gasket is weak and the water has rotted it. I'll let you know if this fixes my problem.. at least its another idea and hopefully will do the trick.

Okay after allowing the silicone to cure for 24 hours I cranked the car up and let it run with the AC on full blast for 30 minutes. Giant puddle of water... UNDER the car.. no water inside! FINALLY.

The silicone did the trick for me. Now just to put everything back together...

Heres a little guide I put together on my experiance for anyone else who is trying to solve this same issue. I've listed things in order of dificulty from easiest to hardest. Hopefully this will solve a lot of frustration for everyone. I will later update it with pictures as I reassemble the interior.

Heres how I trouble shot mine:

1 Check to see if your drain tube is clogged and causing the water to back up into the evaporator pan (the one at the lowest point on the dash). Clearing the tube should be your first attempt to fix it. I used a coat hanger and a pair of pliars to bend the hanger and removed the air intake assembly to access the firewall.

2 Check your evaporator pan to see if it is clogged with junk from the lack of a cabin air filter. Only the 2000-2001 cars had this filter. 02+ do not. You can gain some access to the pan by disconecting the ducting after the blower motor... access it from under the pass side glove box area. I cleaned a whole handful of leaves/hair/gunk out of there. Then flush it with a few gallons of water to make sure your drain tube is working. You can add a cabin air filter pretty easily.. there is still a template on the ac blower for where the filter went on earlier cars. I plan on doing this as well in a few weeks.

3. your drain tube can be fully functional, but have a bad seal around the firewall. This is what was wrong with mine. There is a cheap foam gromet that mitsu used where the tube exits the cabin thru the firewall. Mine was still leaking thur there even after clearing the tube and pan. My answer was to silicone the living crap out of that area around the tube. Its not easy to get to it.. but I was very liberal with the silicone so hopefully it fills in any leaks.

4. could be other things like a crack in your pan... heater core.. ect. However, I would guess its one of the first 3 things. Especially if its pure water.. no antifreeze or anything. I'm new to the 3G world, but in my research on the web... seems like the drain tube is almost always the culprit.

PS your drain tube exits your firewall into the engine compartment on the drivers side... right next to the steering column. You will see a small tube protruding about half an inch straight out from the firewall. It does NOT look like a drain tube and you will probably search for it for at least 20 minutes. I did. Its located right next to the motor mount, twoards the bottom of the firewall and you may have to move some of the heat shielding mat to see it. You will not be able to see it by crawling underneath the car. Best bet is to locate it from the top by taking off the air intake and if you need to, navigate by touch to access it from the bottom. Not a very accessable spot for the tube if you ask me.

OK..we removed the radio. Still cannot figure out how to get the console off (front piece) to access the drain pan. I also cannot seem to find the tube. The Mitsubishi dealer wants $95 to plow air up into the drain line.

I bought some gasket material to try your other solution, but again, still can't find where the tube is or where it goes through the firewall.

Any suggestions? Carpet is peeled back and drying.

Thanks

i believe it was clay amoure who posted:

This drain is at about 2:00 o'clock and 6 inches away when looking at the accelerator pedal. (i edited some of the wording for better understanding.)

Yeah...we read all the info on here but are evidently visually challenged. We'll keep looking. Can anyone give us advice on how to remove the heater core cover and / or the front half of the console - lower section - for a better look?

Thanks,
