hey guys, sorry i haven't been around here for a while.....been busy with things.

anyways...ive stumbled across a few minor problems and i stress the word minor....

i recently bought a new air filter and i tweaked the idle and now when i start driving it sounds like a vacuum leak. but however when i push the break pedal all the way in when im at a stop the leak goes away?

problem number 2.

my mechanic who knows a lot a bout dsm's told me about the dsm tick? what exactly is this ticking sound im hearing whe the car idles it grows louder some times and then it goes away.......

problem 3 geeze this may take a while......

i found out my right turn signal flashes quicker than the left. i checked for loose wires both inside the dash board and checked for loose wires in the housings.....still it flashes quickly and it's getting to become a neusince. i replaced all the blubls and i mean ALL the bulbs in the front and rear and still its staying flashy.

a kid is going to buy my eclipse soon but im not sure if i wana sell it.....i guess its like a first true love concept or whatever, and if i keep it im going balls to the wall and building it for a good daily driver thats clean and somewhat fast.

The sound you are hearing it mostlikly just air being sucked into the intake...

I am guessing in the "DSM tick" as you say is the lifters almost every DSM has that problem.

And mine and my friends Eclipse's have the one faster then the other turn signal deal...

The tick is from the lifters.....

Most dsm's have a bad case of the lifter ticks....

the lifters in my GSX always tick when its cold, but other than that, it doesnt get lifter tick hardly at all. i have been tick-free for several months now. however, my engine only has 30xxx miles on it, so im sure that has something to do with it.

so the tick means the lifters are going bad?

and the vacuum leak is the cause of the intake filter?

The lifters aren't going bad. They sounded like that from the factory.

And it's not just DSM that has that problem. All OHC cars have it.

1. Start your car
2. Let it get to normal idle
3. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it on all parts of your intake but the filter itself
4. If you see or hear the idle go down a little bit, or your car dies, you have a vacuum leak
5. Repeat process, looking for air bubbles popping to the surface. Once you have found the bubbles, you have found your leak.

This is tried and true, and I have done it on about 6 cars.

If the lifter tick bothers you to much just replace them with 3g lifters... You can get then for around $100. And it's worth it.

well the kid backed down from buying my eclipse so im considering to build it once again.

the body needs a lil work

hood replaced

bumper

engine work

suspension ( hopefully)

im considering a engine rebuild kit after i get some cash plus i think my car has a tiny oil leak but a huge dent in the pan. i'll put 2 and 2 together and say its coming from there lol.

but the carb cleaner, how do i clean the intake when the car's running? i can't take the intake off or it will stall....

STOP!

If you have a even a small dent in your oil pan get that replaced immediately.

Borrow, steal, sell drugs, prostitute your self out just get that fixed ASAP.

There is a very good chance that you will starve your engine of oil and that rebuild will happen much sooner.

you spray the carb cleaner on the intake piping while the car is running. It is not actually to clean it. It just will kill the engine if you have a leak.

this is a good technique but make sure your spark plug wires aren't grounding to the valve cover or other piece of metal before hand. you don't want a fire under your hood

well i got the leak fixed!!!!!

it was the idle and the filter they both needed tweaked =)

the oil leak i just recently noticed when i got my 4-2-1- headers on and someone posted that i had a small leak under the transfer case.

i'll try to get that fixed asap but my oil has been upholding every 3000 miles. so thats some good out of my problem.
