Well, I did some swapping and lo and behold... it didn't work!

"Wait... what?"

Yep, nada.  Swapped out all the additional LEDs that I added back when my cruise control was working and I got a big ol' squat diddly (squat diddly > diddly squat).

Now before everybody starts going "OMG MANYBREWS WAS WRONG!  APOCOLYPSE HAS BEGUN!!!"  This was not in vain!  Why?  Well, I found out why my city lights would turn on when I pressed down on my brakes.  And yes, it was because of the LEDs.  When I swapped out my LED brake lights with bulbs, my city lights functioned normally.

So, in a way, manybrews was still right... just not in the topic I had hoped. :P

To be honest myself, I haven't done anything to see if the LEDs are the root of the problem.  I've haven't been on this board for very long, but I respect everything you say, regardless of how brutal your words may be (because 100% of the time, what you say is correct  ).  You've been right on everything else you put your $0.02 into... I let past experience determine future results :)

As for the fascination with LEDs, I did the brake lights because the red LEDs produce a more vibrant red color than the stock bulbs.  In some cases, they can actually be brighter than halogen bulbs, not to mention generate less heat which prolongs the life of the bulb.  Not to mention city lights and plate lights look great in the cool white LEDs.

dude your are rite... the city lights/break lights are linked to the cruise system

it is simply because the cruise will be cancalled once u hit the break... and it detects whether the light is on to determine whether u have hit the break... so if u mess it up, it will surely affect the cruise sys

This might be completely stupid, but I had a cruise problem too. My 09 GTS' cruise just didn't work the second I took it from the dealer's. I brought it back the next week and they spent 2 hours trying to figure it out and they couldn't.

To be brief, this is what they did and my cruise worked again. Take the dash apart and pull out the cluster gauges (it's one single unit). Apply some conductive lube or something on the connector and plug it back in.

My cruise came right back. I swear. It was stupid and caused Mitsu 2 hours of labor for nothing, and caused the mechanic because he called tech support too many times lol.

No SES light or anything. The car functions perfectly, aside from the Cruise Control. It's become less of a issue now since I gotten used to not having it.

Eh! I'm happy either way. manybrews, thanks for the help... again.

UPDATE: It was the brake lights. Having any kind of LED in your brake lights will cause the ECM to spaz. For me, it was my cruise control not working and my city lights turning on when I pressed my brakes.

I've also realized that if one of your brake lights burns out, the car will compensate for the loss by switching your tail light into a brake light.

IE: If your left brake light burns out, your left tail light will operate as a brake light until the original one is replaced. GENIOUS!

+1 manybrews... as always.

actually, that doesnt sound right.
if you lost a ground for one of them, it usually causes the issue you're talking about.
is it possible you just didnt have the bulb installed correctly?

Nope. Bulbs only go in one way... plus I had the bulb completely unplugged.

In regards to this thread, this weekend I had the same issue. No cruise and one tail light didn't work. Couldn't figure out why the hell this was happenning. Had installed LED's in the city lights, reverse, brake and license plate sockets.

So after reading this thread, I decided to try something before taking it into the dealership.

Took out JUST the LED brake lights, and replaced with the original bulbs.

Went out and took it for a spin, and VOILA! CRUISE AND TAIL LIGHTS THAT WORKED!

Left all the other LED's in as I had, and still can't believe one friggin' set of bulbs could cause tha kind of malfunctioning.

Anyways, live and learn.
