I have a 1998 Montero Sport LS which is a 2wd model. I am an insurance adjuster and was wondering if I could be able to connect a tow bar package and tow behind my motor home when I have to go on storm duty for the upcoming hurricane season. I live in New Mexico and will be traveling to the East Coast should there be a need this year. I really don't want to have to rent a trailer, as the motor home already will be costing me plenty in gas, thanks to our wonderful ol industry here in the states.

Any help and assistance is greatly appreciated.

it is possible to tow it. but there are a few questions that needs to be answered first. does your montero have a manual or a/t transmission. if you have a m/t towing wouldn't be a problem but if you have an a/t unit thats gonna be a bit tricky.
you need to take out the propeller shaft that connects the tranny to the diff so it wont burn up your tranny's torque converter.

It's an automatice tranny. Thanks for the advise, looks like I'll be trailering it just to make sure I don't create a problem.

Its really not much of a problem removing the drive shaft for towing. If its something you will do often you can drop the front and securley tie up to the chassis leaving the rear connected to the diff. Might take 15 minutes to do.

jim,

he has a 2wd model so that means he just need to take out the rear shaft only.

By the front I meant the front of the rear drive shaft and leave the rear or diff end attached. This saves the hassle of removing another connection, dropping and then storing in transit. Just have to be carefull the drive doesn't drop or else it copuld catapolt the truck into the air.
