Hey guy's how's it going. Wondering if I can get some HELP! Okay so I did somthing stupid last night. I came home real late and was tired but I needed "Gas" so I said "I'll put some in down the street at the gas station in the morning". Today I tried turning on my car which it did, BUT! it just kept dying. At first I thought my battery was dead, but it wasn't, radio was on and AC and heater were ON. I then walked down to the gas station put in gas in my gasoline gallon went back and put gas in my car. I kept trying to turn it on but it would just keep turning off? I talked to one of my friends and he told me when you run a car on empty gunk and filth gets into your fuel filter. So he then tried guiding me over the phone trying to find the fuel filter. At first he found an Ebook saying that its located under the backseats of the car. I removed the clip but didn't know what to do? there was big white cap that i didn't even wanna mess with. He basically told me to remove my gas cap so there wouldn't be any built up pressure, but then he called back telling me the fuel filter is located under the hood passenger side "look for 2 hoses" there are alot of hoses which I ended up failing finding the fuel filter. Please can somone help me? I dont know what to do and where to locate "the fuel filter on my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse GS". Please if somone can help me find it i would really appreciate it.......

thanks guy's......

first of all take your fuel line off of your fuel rail. 2 bolts size 10 MM.

take the fuel line and place it in a plastic bottle. tape the line in so it doesn't fall out. now attempt to start your car, do it 2 times. now check the bottle. is their fuel? yes? no?

if there is no fuel your fuel pump relay may be bad, or your fuel pump may be bad. first take your fuel pump relay out and test it. if you don't know how, have a friend take you to a shop and have them test it. if its bad replace if its good your fuel pump is bad and that needs to be replaced.

now if there is fuel in the bottle you need to check the connection of your ignition failure sensor. it is located on your intake manifold on the right front side. if the connection is bad or disconnected plug it in better. also sometimes this wiring harness will fry it will be noticeable if it is.

if the connection is not bad and the wires look fine. then the little sensor that the wiring harness connects to is faulty. take it off and have a shop test to see if it is operational. if it is not i suggest you price one online for a new one they are generally pretty expensive.

i replaced mine 4 months ago and it cost me $99 for the part alone. i of course had to have mine figured out through taking it to a shop, (no one on this forum could help me out) i'm sure i could have found the part cheaper.

if these processes do not pin point your problem then you will have to take it into a shop and have it diagnosed. i have yet to meet anyone on this forum who has been educated more about this problem than me.

due to the fact that the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly!

it does require replacing if it doesn't have enough gas running through it.

that is true, but the eclipse fuel filter is within the fuel pump assembly. to even try to dis-assemble it takes more mechanic skill than anyone asking about the fuel filter location.

i pulled my fuel pump assembly out a few months ago and looking at it i was thinking, "how am i going to replace the fuel pump if the assembly is pieced like that!"

its not exactly a easy thing to do. i bet his fuel relay is bad or his ignition failure sensor is messed up.
