02 gs 58000 miles. on kbb it said that the fuel tank was 16.4 gallons. and when i use just about the entire tank i get about 320-350 miles. so that is around 20-21 mpg. i am just wondering if this is about what i should be getting or it there is anyway to maybe pulls some more miles out of each gallon. i just did a tune up and installed a cold air intake(ebay). any input would be awesom. it also said on kbb that the eclipse was raited at 23town and 30 hwy. not what i am getting. thanks

KBB gives that rating based on ideal conditions, level ground, etc. As long as your tires are properly inflated, plugs/wires are fresh, and air filter is clean, that's about the best you will do.

Why don't your actually calculate you actual MPG so you actually know what your actually talking about actually.

Miles divided by gallons added equals Miles per gallon

So fill up reset the trip meter. Drive fill up again, look at miles say self I need to calculate my actual MPG then say self its miles per gallon so I know to put the miles in the calculater first divided by the gallons I just just put in.

Then actually pat self on back and report back.

PAT SELF ON BACK...

First - I did tell you the answer:
As long as your tires are properly inflated, plugs/wires are fresh, and air filter is clean, that's about the best you will do.

Second, you haven't even correctly calucated your averages for comparison. So how are we the issue when we told you what to correct AND asked you to provide proper measurements?

You should get about 24mpg if you shift around 3k every time. If not, you need to tune everything up.

Actually KBB is wrong, our tanks in our cars are 14.5 gallon tanks. and I usually average around 26mpg in my 03GS. but there are no real mods you can do to your car cheaply that will greatly help your gas mileage. A short ram intake will only moderately help it but probably not significantly like you're looking for. But that's all I got for ya.

00-02 has a larger fuel tank than 03-05.

Why would they put a bigger fuel tank in the 00-02? That's just stupid if you ask me, but then again Mitsubishi sometimes does do things that don't make any sense. Oh well all I know is mine is 14.5.

16.4 with the reserve tank in the 00-02
16.2 with the reserve tank in the 03-05

The reason you think yours is 14.5 is because you never hit the 1.5 gallon reserve tank.

This is true. I never let it get down that low cause the gas in the reserve tank is usually pretty old and nasty and isn't too good for your engine.

So you should use it up and get new gas for the reserve tank... :P

reserve tank? "what chew talkin bout Willis?" there is a reserve tank? when does that kick in? my wife has nearly ran our car dry on a few occasions. when i go to fill it up the most i have ever put in was 13.3 gallons and that was with filling it up to the top of the fill tube just before the gas cap bra. i mean i figure that once the gas light kicks on i am sitting on 1.5 gallons left.

so does that mean i just have a very rare RS with a tiny tank? or has the reserve tank just never emptied?

Run out of gas. you'll put 14. somthing of gas in.

one gallon of fuel in a tank is barely lining the bottom.

Yea I looked in my owner's manual and it says 16.3 gallons. And I don't want new fuel in my reserve tank EMC, cause I never plan on letting it go down that far.
