i picked up a mirage 2002 about a week ago.. im happy with the stock speakers they handle the sound really well(4 speakers) i just need a new head unit and some more bass.. i also got a hold of a big dual 12" sub and box the other week and i have the perfect amp to run it i just need to wire it u.. am i best to just go to supercheap and get a wireing kit and not use half the stuff or should i just go to auto barn and get the wires separate.. like a power cable.. an earth.. rca's.. and some speaker wire. (and fuse) and also i havnt had the best look but where would the best place to be to run the wires from the boot to the batter for the power cable and the rcas too.. any help would be great thanks.. is a manual too..(so no poking through where the clutch is)

I also own an 02 Mirage, which I had a system hooked up in. If In my opinion, it would be best to buy the cables separately. Most of the time when you buy the package "deal", it is usually overpriced for what you get. And like you said, you usually don't end up using half of what you get. What is the power output (RMS not peak) on the subs and amp? I had an Alpine CDE 9870 head unit hooked up in mine, which you can find for really cheap since it is being discontinued. It had some really nice features that I hadn't seen on head units that cost like $50 more. Also if you are looking for really big bass, it has a feature called "subwoofer system" that has 2 levels of power. The 1st level is just normal and the 2nd will give your subs INSANE amounts of output. If you want to run the power wire somewhere other than through the firewall, the easiest way is to run it along the top of the fender and down the front of the door (near the hinge). Then I would run the power and the RCA cable under the door sills and around the sides of the back seat. Also run the remote wire along with the RCA cable (obv).

do not! do not! do not! run your wires through your firewall.

take off your front body panel located nearest to your battery. run the wire into this area then find the hole that pokes into your cabin. jump into this hole with the power wire. then run all your other stuff.

if your looking for a seriously professional looking job. pull your front seat out, then your base door seal. then pull your carpet up. run the power wire to your back seat. remove your back seat pad, and run the wire under this. while your at it run the RCA, and remote wire back as well. once everything is ran to your trunk replace your back seat pad, carpet, front seat, and base front door seal.

I have never heard of a 6 gauge cable, only 8 and 4 are the closest you will get. It's probably best if you run a 4 gauge wire because most of the bulk cable you buy from an everyday car shop will have some sort of resistance to it so some of the power gets lost in the travel to your subs. That's also why it's best to run as short of a power wire as possible and remember to have the fuse no more than a foot away from the battery connection (if the fuse ever blows this will ensure that a fire won't start anywhere inside the car as the power will be cut off almost immediately). With that size system you should probably hook up a capacitor to the system to ensure that your car's electrical system won't lose power (meaning no dimming headlights, etc) If you aren't sure how to connect the whole setup, it's probably best to let a professional installer do it so you don't blow anything.
