i'm not sure exactly how the GT exhausts are setup as i have a RS. however i can tell everyone one way to build a dual looking exhaust for a RS/GS. (it might be the same setup after the cat on a GT, so you never know.)
as a reminder, this setup will most defiantly need a shop lift so that once the pipes and mufflers are all welded together you can put it in. a regular jack, and jack stands might not lift your car high enough once the pipes are welded together.
1. unbolt the exhaust from the attachment just before the rear wheel suspension frame.
2. mark the very top and very bottom of the pipe with a piece of chalk.
3. pull the entire exhaust out and cut the muffler off after the return down bend. (enough room for a pipe to slid on it and be welded.)
4. get a 90 degree bend pipe that the inside diameter will just fit over your stock exhaust. set it so it will turn directly towards the inside of your car. make sure the top chalk mark is pointing directly up.
5. put a tack weld on the top and the bottom of this piece. (make sure the weld is big enough it won't fall off, but small enough if you need to make a adjustment you can break it off.)
6. set it back up under your car as if it were connected. figure the length of straight pipe thats outside diameter will just fit inside the first 90 degree bent pipe. you get the idea of alternating inside and outside diameter through this entire setup right?
7. you will need to extend this pipe to the center of your car. with another 90 degree turn pipe attached to it. (it will end up looking kind of looking like an S turn.)
8. tack weld a Y splitting pipe for your exhaust now. you can also use a t splitting pipe. once the splitting pipe is attached you will need some straight pipe, and two 45 degree bent pipes. or two 90 degree bent pipes if you go with the T splitting pipe.
9. make sure it is leveled if it were bolted on.
10. tack weld the straight pipes (you will have to figure the size you need, remember to keep in mind you need the 45 or 90 degree bent pipes in there as well. and always remember having to cut more off is better than needing more pipe after cutting too much off.)
11. put your exhaust back up in and make sure it is where you need it to be.
12. tack weld the bent pipes and then the mufflers. ( you may or may not need some more straight pipes to make the muffler tips reach outside of the bumper. test this after the bent pipes are connected.)
13. once the entire system is set up so it fits perfectly make all your welds complete. this can be done with a MIG welder very easily.
if you have a friend who wants to do an exhaust system may i suggest the both of you do your exhaust at the same time and share a rent cost of a MIG welder from home depot.
if you choose not to do it yourself take it to any shop after you cut the spot you want the other outlet to come out of. they have pipe benders to make custom exhaust systems, however their cost includes charging you per weld, cut, bend made, and time to make it. it tends to cost a lot more than making your own. even with having to buy and weld 15 pieces together. it still costs less than any shop will make for you.
sorry if this post was too long for you!!!
