okay so last night, i was leaving a friends house, and i started my car, and instantly it just died.

i managed to drive it, but if i try to let it idle, it dies again. it's like there's no fuel getting where it needs to go unless i'm giving it gas.

does anyone have any idea what this could be? i really need to get this fixed asap.

thanks in advance.

straight out of the book.

1. loose or faulty electrical connections at the distributor, or crank angle sensor, coil, or alternator.

2. insufficient fuel reaching the fuel injectors.

3. vacuum leak at the exhaust return lines, or oil return lines from the engine to the intake.

just for a quick fix, you can get a phillips, or cross tip screw driver and adjust your throttle body positioning stop screw up. (turn it to the left) then start your car. once its keeps idling check the RPM. make sure its still below 800 RPM. anything above this will make your mileage go down quite a bit. as your idle will be rather high. i run 600 RPM on my personally.

honda or not if you know engines you should be just fine i don't really have the time to hold your hand through the procedures.

just take it to a friend who knows more about engines and he/she should be able to help you out.

I agree.

You're not a "Honda" guy - you're an inexperienced mechanic who installed a few bolt on mods to a Honda prior to this car.

I would try cleaning the throttle body.

Not sure about the eclipse but my explorer has an idle air control value that went bad and would kill it.

*sigh* still waiting on the shop to look at my eclipse. I guess I shouldnt complain it give me more time to save $ to have it fixed

although unlikely it could be your oxygen sensors. if they are malfunctioning they could create a very lean gas to air mixture that makes your car sputter and die. i had a similar problem where the car would almost die unless i gave it gas. i changed the sensor and it worked perfect

is your check engine light on as well?

Could be your TPS(throttle position sensor) going out. Are you experiencing any other problems like surging or hesitation or seemingly dead spots in the throttle?

Hey, I had this problem a few days after I bought my eclipse, it would start fine but if you tried to let it idle it would die, it ended up being that the air intake wasn't connected to the manifold (at least I'm pretty sure it was the manifold), where the hose comes from the air intake box to the engine. Hope that helps

Ok, i replaced the idle air control valve and when i start the car it turns over then dies, as long as i give the car gas it will run, but the minute i let off of the gas the car dies. this is crazy. check engine light turned off and i have pulled the battery cable to reset the ecu twice. any ideas?? :feedback:

Yea now I'm having this problem. I reset the ecu because the previous owner used regular and wanted the computer to relearn the engine on premium. It seems better and doesn't die as often but it still acts like it's cutting out then it trys to save it. Most of the time the computer keeps the engine alive but it still dies sometimes. I'm going to look for air leaks here soon.

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? I was having idling problems and was told to clean it. Did that and drove it. No more problems, only thing is a couple of days later the freaking tranny went auuuuuugh. Oh well i should get it back this week i hope. If not it'll be next week.

Serious give cleaning the throttle body a try. Mine was dirtier than i thought
