I have installed a greddy 18r FMIC and am having the basic airflow/overheating problems associated with that. I have installed a 170* thermostat and have also added watter wetter. Helped some, but not enough, still gets pretty warm. I am getting ready to get a Fluidyne radiator. Any comments on if this would almost fix if not cure my problem?

by having that fmic you are really slowing down the air to the radiator on top of the you have the condenser in front of the radiator as well. so yeah the radiator is not going to get the air that it needs to be cooled off. by having a bigger radiator and bigger fan that will do the job.

hmm either that or a smaller intercooler. a local tuner near me has a civic with a horizontally long intercoller that is not tall..it leaves way for the radiator. but Attack is probobly right about the bigger radiator

Thanks for the help. I never use my AC and was wondering if there was a safe way to remove the condenser?

did you remove all of the plastic in front of the radiator?

you could try cutting the large opening (mouth) on the front bumper to be bigger

do it the right way and take it to a shop to take care of the R-134 then you can start to remove the A/C stuff. then your water temp should be back to normal. just by having the intercooler and the radiator.

I will do that. But I still would want the aluminum rad (and eventually flex-a-lite fans) for the fact of putting bigger turbo, more boost and a tubular exhaust mani would really raise the temps. Thanks for all the help though.

try some header wrap around the manifold and on the charge pipes.

Hot wiring the fans but seriously you should not be overheating with just an FMIC install.

oh yes you can depending on where you live. Intercooler, a/c condenser, and radiator. So the radiator by now will not get the air that it needs to be cooled because of the fat intercooler.

It's not like i can't drive it or i'll instantly warp the head kind of overheating. But it's enough to where i dont feel safe. Plus I do live in florida right now, and it is 80 by about 8 in the morning. Can't wait to be living back in my old kentucky home again though.

yeah florida is definately rough on a cooling system. I can see how it might still get hot even with the water wetter. Have you considered an aftermarket carbon fiber or fiberglass hood with vents? its the expensive route but try that header wrap, it will really make a big difference

I am having the same problem... I have a 95 eclipse RS which I recently turbocharged with a treadstone performance kit (turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid).... before the turbo it wouldnt overheat but now it does overheat. I try to cheat by turning the AC on but it would do it... at the beginning it works but then the AC is too much of a load and starts to overheat... it stays constant a I will say about 1/8 above normal looking at the whole scale on the temperature needle.

Now the thing is that if the car is at idle it wont overheat... but if I start boosting or running at constant high speed (=>60mph) it will start overheating if I reduce the pressure on the gas pedal (reducing boost from 5-10VAC to about 150VAC) then it will start going back to normal.

Does anyone know if a turbo blanket will help to avoid heat dissipation because I do notice that if I open my hood.... dammmmmmn it is really hot in there! I live in El Paso, TX and recently have been experiencing 105F but it will also overheat in the morning when we are probably about 90F.

What can I do to fix this?

the A/C will definately make it overheat. do you have a FMIC?

A turbo blanket will help but with the 420 cars the downpipe is very high in the engine bay. wrap it with header wrap the whole way down until past the oil pan.

try to find a cooler thermostat like the 170* he mentioned in the above posts. I cant remember if they make them for those vehicles or just the 4g63 cars.
