Hello

I have a 2000 eclipse Gt and the volume button on the radio does not work, you can turn the dial up and down but nothing happens. Everything else works, the cds will play but the volume does not work and you can change the radio station.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Your radio is broken - buy a new one.

If you have the infinity sound system with the amp under the passenger seat, look for the fuse for the audio system. It's under the hood I think. Check it. It's probably toast. Replace it and enjoy your factory system some more.

If it's not the fuse, then it's probably the amp. You can try to find one at a junkyard. Don't bother OEM replacement. Just get a new HU and an amp bypass kit. If you really want to keep the stock-look stereo, you might be able to just buy a new aftermarket amp, but I have no idea how you'd wire that up? Maybe ask bobthecow.

If you dont have the infinty amp'd system, i have no idea...

Good luck

stock radio look is lame. replace your entire system for something with better quality, an after market amp, head unit, and speakers will kick that stock infinity system's ***. that crap is only like a 200 watt system anyways, and when i say 200 watt thats combining the entire systems RMS together. 200 watts for a stereo system was good back in 01, not today.

go out and treat yourself to something special. buy a pioneer premier head unit, and some pioneer stock replacement speakers 3 way and 5 way would be optimum. disconnect that crappy center dash tweeter while your at it. go get a 4 channel eclipse amp to run your stock replacement speakers. the bigger your wattage the higher the quality of sound will be for these type of speakers remember to match wattage. whatever your front speakers are match the rear speakers with that wattage. also remember to match the speaker RMS wattage with your amp RMS wattage.

if you put in 100 watt front speakers and get 300 watt rear speakers and then run a 200 watt amp. you will first blow your front speakers, then your rear speakers will not run as loud as they should, and can easily be damaged without the proper wattage ran to them.

Underpowering speakers will blow them faster than anything. Make sure you have good, clean power, and the more the better. You need to get a high-current amp, with clean power, 'cause distortion will kill them quick too. If you want to get real technical you need to look at the efficiency of the speakers (db rating). More efficient speakers will require less power to make the same level of volume. BTW, a GOOD 2-way speaker ie 6" mid with a 1" dome tweeter, and a matching crossover will kill a 3-way or 5-way speaker. Don't waste your money on pioneer speakers, though I will agree the Premier heads are one of the best. Also, are we forgetting that not everyone WANTS or even NEEDS head-splitting stereo levels here? Your square kicker might sound good to you, but in a bandpass box its only good for rap. Everything else will sound like farts. Ask what kind of music he listens to? I used to run 2 MTX 12's in ported boxes in my celica when I was 21... My tastes have evolved though in the last 9 years. Good range, quality and clarity are important to me now. Id settle for one GOOD 10" with lots of CLEAN power in a small sealed box, 'glassed into the corner of my hatch ('cause I do use the hatch) with a pair of 6" components up font, and even just 6" mid-bass (no high end at all) in the back. I'd probably spend more on dynamat than anything else, with all that hard plastic on our cars... As far as an amp, if you're doing a "full system", you'll need 2 amps: a good 2-channel with lots of juice, a low-pass x-over (pretty much standard these days) and a cap. Also, for the cleanest power, put a 4-channel on your speakers, but make sure it's got the high-pass x-over set high enough to keep your speakers from distorting. If you need to save some money, most good head units now have enough power to run the speakers (and do a decent job), but an separate amp will sound the best, not to mention the speakers will last longer.

Great Advice. Thanks

Yes I got the infinity sound. I am going to be placing everything later when I get some cash, I just want something to listen to now, better then nothing. Thats Dumb Why would they mount the amp under the passenger seat.

LOL your funny SkRibL! you assumed i had a L5 or L7 kicker square. nope, i have another brand that i won't mention because i don't want to catch any crap about it. if your into stereo's you know what brand it is. i got it because 1, it has a rated better high frequency response and 2, it was inexpensive. i was only mentioning it because when people think stereo equipment they think in ranges of dollars by 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and up.

i was only referring that it is easy to build a decent system without bankrupting you. you do have a good point though, not a lot of people will believe me when i say putting less power to a speaker will blow it faster than putting more power to it. however i do know that. i wasn't sure if anyone would support that so i just posted as most people would believe. i've gotten tired of defending my posts over and over again.

Speakers are at their best with 75%-85% of their rated power going through them.

And you can get a real good system for about 2k if you install it all yourself.

see thats what i was talking about. not everyone wants the new year speakers, amps, and head units. most of the time buying the old discontinued overstock speakers can save you tons of money, and finding the least expensive good brand is also a great way to get a good system for a inexpensive price.

nick, what would you say is the least expensive, yet long lasting, and decent sounding brand to buy? i know that pioneer has some pretty good stuff for decent prices. i think boston acoustics is relatively cheap on speakers, well depending on what kind of stuff you buy. i'm not sure your stand point on MA audio, and its sister company (metric audio) their amps are way under priced for what they can output, and handle. you might not have the prettiest system. but it will be of quality equipment, with a good sound, and you can feel better that you actually put your system in.

like i always say build it don't buy it. i have built and ran every single system i have ever had. i put every one of them in myself. i don't run to the audio store and hand them a months worth of paychecks in cash and say i want that system in my car.

Many moons ago I was the guy who took several of your monthly paychecks to build that system.

None. The OEM radio won't play anything other than Audio CD's.

Besides, you should be using MP3 format not WAV.

Hi,

I just used a blank sony CD, had some MP3 songs converted them to .wav format using goldwave software and changed the frequency of the songs so that i can fit in more, but now it didn't work.

should i be able to play MP3 or wav or any other format?

Or was any thing wrong which i did.

Thanks,
gaurav

ok - you need to actually READ wtf I said rather than asking the same question again.

YOUR OEM RADIO WILL NOT PLAY ANYTHING OTHER THAN STANDARD AUDIO CD'S. THIS MEANS YOU CAN'T BURN A MP3, WAV, OR ANY OTHER CD AND PUT IT IN YOUR CD PLAYER AND PLAY IT.

The best brand for cheap, reliable, and quality is either pioneer or blaupunkt.

I hate alpine, kicker, and sony.

My favorites are infinity, eclipse, rockford, and audiobahn.... but they are all pricey as hell.
