I've seen a couple threads with people replacing their OEM BOVs with afternarket and I just read this Eclipse BOV installation article and I'm wondering what the practical advantage/s are of replacement.

http://herpetology.com/dsm/bov.html

Is this basically a racing performance thing (in which case, whence the gain?), or is it a cool sound thing, or what? I own a 1990 GSX with OEM BOV and the car is never raced -- what are the potential advantages for me?

Thanks :)

1. Its a cool sounding thing
2. Supporting mod for mods which increase HP and boost
3. Nobody like the 2g stock piece of crap because it leaks at even stock levels

for the 1st generation the b.o.v is made out of metal. so it is a lot better. it is the same one used in the WRC. if you crushed it, it will handed up to 20psi with out any problem but don't over crush it.

bov will NOT give you more power.

The potential advantages for you at this point are none, unless your current diverter is leaking or malfunctioning.

Thanks all!

I tried searching on "WRC", but all I came up with was "World Rally Championships", and I'm guessing that wasn't the intended meaning. Hint please :)?

What is the advantage when shifting or releasing the throttle in blowing off the air pressure? How does that assist performance during competition?

Think I found my answer to the second question, but still stumped on "WRC"!

He means they use a basic steel diverter valve on Rally cars.
