Hey, new here...

So my '01 Eclipse GT has 215/50/17s stock. Will 225/45/17s fit?

I realize they should be a tad wider and about the same height as the stock tires, but want to make sure before I get them and try to have them mounted. My buddy took a set off his car when he put rims on and I could use new (ok nearly new) tires...

Thanks!

225's can fit on a regular 7" wide rim, but they tend to lop over the sides a bit. i use this kind of information to give myself rim protection without having to pay for the crap feature that tires companies offer and make it sound more expensive so you pay an extra 20 bucks per tire. as far as being the same height, your probably going to lose a little bit. but not much. 225/40/R17 tires should fit just fine with a small amount of lay over on the edge of your rim. just don't expect to be driving a 100mph with the wrong size of tires on your car without some kind of slight wobble, or shimmy!

correct size tires are made for a reason homie!

You will not have any issues. 215 to 225 is not a big jump. If anything when I went from 225(stock) to 275 I was more stable at higher speeds.

It's a wheel, not a rim. A wheel is comprised is 3 main components, (Hub, Spoke, and Rim). This is why a 3-piece wheel has a rim, it's 1 of the 3 pieces.

We might as well call our engine/motors **** air pumps because that what they do.

A motor car (automobile) has a starter motor, a windscreen wiper motor, and motors to drive pumps (fuel, power steering, windscreen washer) – but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine. The term 'motor' was originally used to distinguish the new internal combustion engine -powered vehicles from earlier vehicles powered by a steam engine (as in steam roller and motor roller).

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll pick up these tires to go on my stock rims (I know, wheels, just kidding, learn something new errday...) :)
