Hi,
Please let me say Thank you before hand for answers to any of my questions.
In case the sig doesn't pop up, I have a 1999 Eclipse GS-T Spyder with NO mods as of yet. It's all stock.

BTW, I tried to look for these specific problems on the post, I read the FAQ's (Which did answer some of the questions I did have), so please don't hate me if you've heard all these before.

I just got the car from a buddy of mine that's about to get married (and therefore will have no room for toys) and so he fully disclosed the following problems:

1. The liner for the convertible top does not stay put (it hangs from the back) and thus partially covers the back window. that is ooviously a potential safety concern. He tried adhesives but the liner won't cooperate. ANYONE else have that problem? Any solution you may have heard of? I will take a pic of it today so as to fully illustrate the problem.

2. I have to fully depress the clutch to make sure I don't grind the gears, is this just an adjustment issue?

3. I found a timing belt kit that states it's for the first gen eclipse, can I use this on my 99 turbo? I looked at Ebay and someof those kits list their kits as fitting both gens.
Again , Thank You!!!

You always need to fully engage the clutch to shift.

DO not buy the kits off Ebay pay a little more and get an aftermarket kit from a reputable shop or napa.

Thank You.

I hsould've been cleare on my post, I have another car with a stick and I don't have to depress the clutch all the way to the bottom to change gears. That's whty I was wondering if it might've been that the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted.

The Kit I have is from NAPA, but as I mentioned the intructions state that it's for a '90-'94 vehicle. As I'm unfamiliar still with this model, shoould I sell that kit and buy one that is specific for my year?

Thanks again for your patience and knowledge.

J.P.

You might be able to adjust the pedal to engage a little further up on the stroke. Do you have to jam it into the carpet?

As far as the t-belt kit goes I'm going to leave that to another user on the board. I'm 99% sure your ok.

Post up some pics of the top. I'm trying to find the site that specializes in covert tops.

Yeah, pretty much. It's not really a problem but I'm just not used to jammin it that far down, LOL.

Ok, i"ll talk to my mechanic or someone at NAPA to see if that Kit will fit my application.

Yeap, gonna take a pic and post it up as soon as I get home.
Thanks again

ok first off i have no knowledge of convertible tops whatsoever so i will leave that problem to another user.

2) as far as I know the 2g cars have hydraulic clutches and as far as i know you cannot adjust where the clutch releases on a hydraulic Clutch BUT also as far as i know all hydraulic clutches (atleast every one I have ever played with) engages/disenges in the same manner.

3) as long as the kit is for ht 4g63t you should be fine, actualy the N/A 4g63 has the same setup so now that I think about it you can use one form that as well and as long as your kit for the 1g isnt for the 1.8L then it is definitly for the 4g63 or 4g63T

You can adjust the pedal on a hydraulic clutch setup, I've done it ;)

Well Hi, I signed up a few days ago, I also have a 97 spyder GST, lets see if we can learn together a bit about them, mine the frame is a little bad because one of the tubes that form the top is bended or loosen inside, so I need the frame or repair the top... And yes, you need to press the clutch the whole way down for longer life on the tranny

No friend, I didnt checked that website until know, but I'm from Puerto Rico, here are a few people that works with tops, so I have to see if it can be fixed, because it would be less expensive, also, i asked in mitsubishi how much did the top cost and they said 4,495, and the car didnt even cost me 4,000 so , i will not buy the whole damned top from them... Lol
