Was thinking about getting some neon for my Lancer. After some research, I know that you can't have red or blue from the front of the car. I did not really understand the rules when i looked them up. Maybe someone can explain for me. I live in Missouri but could not really find any definite laws or statements regarding to neon underneath the car. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

As far as know.....you cannot have any of the neon on while the car is in motion. It doesn't matter what color you have....as long as it isn't on when moving.

Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles.

In my personal opinion I find neon's extremely tacky but that's just me :)

Illegal in any state anywhere. Only can use at the track or off roads.
Its under imitating a police officer. I know you can get it in different colors, but still illegal.

Nope guess again....Unless they're stock you can't have any lights interior or exterior. I think its more like public service vehicle than officer. Things like that are for show not for use on the road. Thats why they put the disclaimer on the package.
Personally I think it almost borders on rice, Like painting your interiors, but hey to each their own.

I don't know about that... there is no federal law pertaining to the placement of lights under a car... the only two laws that are adopted by all states is the nonresident violators compact, and the universal license compact. so it would be different in each state... i know mine in Oklahoma will not let you put any colour reserved for the police officers so no blue or red is allowed. but each state is different. so you can not say it is illegal in every state (it may well be), point is every state is different and is allowed by the federal government to control their own DMV. do the research if there is no law on the books. then there is no ticket to be had.

ford, you know the big motor company, offers different interior lights for there cars stock. your post makes no since. how would an officer know the difference between a stock light and an after market (esp since so many car manufactures make different colour interior lights?) the language of a law like that would be to broad and wouldn't be enforceable. once again... don't rely on people to tell you what the law says... that's what lawyers are for. people can read a law and not know the basis behind it or the way in which it has been applied by court case. hence the reason it's a felony to give legal advise to someone when you are not an attorney

No one here is dispensing legal advice nor is anyone seeking one. Users are sharing their own opinions/understandings.

Bottom line best thing to do is contact the state legislature and/or brush up on the local/state vehicle codes!

In the State of Nebraska striaght from the Dept of Motor vehicles... A vehicle may have lights under a car as long as the bulbs themselves cannot be visible and there cannot be lights in the front of you car and around your license plates. You can legally install them in the front bumper but must be shutoff when on a public road and/or in motion.

But that say nothing about other states and it may come down to police opinion and if they sight you for it, you have no choice but to pay or research and fight it in court.

Ok first off I wasn't giving legal advise. Me and my husband have lived in many different states and I was just telling him about what we have learned over the years. God forbid someone try to help someone else on this board out.
Also it states clearly on each box of undercar that they are for use off road and show. Sorry if I stuttered, but you can't have them on when on the road. They can be installed but not glowing.
Lastly, I went to college for political science I know the difference between state law vs. govt law.
Call your local PD if you really wanna know specifics about colors and placement

There should be a Rice Statute...and on the description on the ticket, it should just say "tool."

You may reply and say you weren't looking for negative reply's, just facts...But, that is a fact. It is rice, and retarded, and so are you if you install that crap.

wasnt implying you were.... simply saying the law is a complex and often stupid and annoying thing to deal with. in Oklahoma there is no law that say you can't have the lights on while in motion. however there are other laws that may apply. sorry if i came on in an accusatory manner, was not my intention and i'm sorry that it did. I was making a statement against your 'it's illegal in every state across the board' comment. One thing they teach us in law school is that nothing in the law is absolute, except don't murder, and even then a good enough attorney can get you off. but the whole point of this, the forum board is a great way to exchange information, but if you have any questions about illegalities on your car i would ask someone in your local law enforcement if you can, and ask them the law(s)/ ordinance(s) you would be breaking if you did install those lights. then look up that law/ordinance. anyone could tell you yes or no but its the police officer that stops you that i w
