Hi,

Hoping someone can help me.

I have a 1995 Magna 2.6 that is on its last legs (220,000 KM) but I want to get every inch out of it that I can.

I only drive it 2 km to the train station and back but it has recently started overheating - badly. if I get stuck in traffic, I have to pull over and walk the rest of the way.

The thermo fan does not come on unless I also have the airconditioner on. Also, irrespective of whether I have the aircon on or not, the heater will only blow cold air.

I have replaced the thermostat and the thermosensor. To no avail

I have pulled the fan out and run off battery voltage - works fine.

There is power to the fan but for some reason it won't come on unless I also have the aircon on and even then, it doesn't stop the engine from overheating.

The only thing I can think of is that, for whatever reason, hot water is not getting to the thermosensor and, perhaps, that means that there is no water circulation at all.

I had some sort of head gasket leak but oil was not finding its way into the radiator, so I tipped in a bottle of Chemiweld.

The radiator is not losing fluid and the coolant is OK.

Any ideas appreciated

MMM

Yes it a very high possibility of of poor circulation . This could mean a blockage in the radiator. On many of these models there is a second coolant temp fan switch on the bottom of the radiator that aids in the fans cycling when the radiator coolant and engine coolant are the same temps. But with poor circulation and the water is not fully flowing will cause a diffrence in the temp of the coolant in the radiator and engine bloack not inhihbiting the radiator fan switch. Yu can usually kno when the car is a little warmer in temp and one the radiator hoses is alot cooler than the other. But Chain Rattle is more an expert on these models and id wait for that opinion also LoL.
