is a maf translator almost the same as a safc?
can u tune with the translator?
when i get my car dynoed do i need something for them to tune it or is it just to see where i am at as far as hp and torque?
what would you guys say is the average for a tune?

Maf translator does not tune. It simply translates data collected by an aftermarket Mas Air Flow Sensor (Mas or Maf) into a readable version for the ECU. Essentially it allows you to use different Mas from other cars and whatknot.

SAFC stands for super air flow controller. It is one of the many fuel management systems which allow you or someone you pay to tune the car and add/reduce fuel or air to achieve the right mixture (right mixture is different for every car).

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

+1 the maf translator doesn't "fine" tune. it adjusts for different airflows and certain injector sizes. The AFC will be a more precise tune and can be used along side the maf translator if necessary.

average tune will consist of the maximum amount of power your car can build with an air fuel ratio of 9-11:1 depending on if your bottom end is stock or not
