I have a 97 Spyder GS 2.4 that I just spent 11 hours installing a new clutch and flywheel. The car is all back together but...the starter will spin but not engage. So I pull the starter and check it on the battery. The starter engages fine. I checked the part numbers for the clutch and flywheel and they match for a 2.4. Everything was torqued to specs. I'm dirty, tired and mentaly spent. What did I miss? Is there another "safety" somewhere. Any help would be great.

did you match the numbers on the clutch itself to the numbers on the invoice, or the box? do the starters on these engines need shimmed?

I didn't match the flywheel itself, didn't think of it, but it did bolt up fine. I didn't see any shims when I pulled the starter but that doesn't mean that there should be some. I'll take some measurments this weekend.
Just a thought, if you put a larger gear on the starter, will it mesh?

Where did you buy the flywheel. A flywheel for a GSX or will not meet your starter. (past experience)

Is it OEM or aftermarket?
