well im seriously looking at buying a new vehicle and i have narrowed it down to these two cars 2000 eclipse GS or 2000 Mustang V6 and they are both manual trannys. and roughly same milage. what are the pros and cons of each car
iv been researching around forums and it seems like they both get 26MPG on average. i no this is a eclipse forum so it will probly be one sided but what would you guys do in this situation? im really looking for a fuel efficent car that still looks good. i no these are not the best MPG cars out there but alot better then what i have.

what do most of you guys get for MPG in the GS's?

if its between those two i'd probably go with mustang. no offence to any owners, i just see no good in the 3g eclipses. but thats just me. i think its all up to opinion and since your opinion is what matters most to you, i'd say go with yours.

If you're looking for eventually aftermarket mods to do to one of the cars then go eclipse but if you're just gonna leave it stock, I'd say still go with the eclipse, the eclipse 4cyl is faster than the mustang V6 as well (or at least the ones that have tried to race me.) But as Lewiman said go with what you prefer. There is nothing wrong with a mustang but the ratio of those on the road vs 3g eclipses is like 100:1.

But like I said go with what you personally like not what other people like.

Which ever has lower miles, and cost the least to insure.

dude the V6 mustang has plenty of potential for after market mods!

i'm not sure what kind of crappy drivers your racing against. but 16 year old girls who just got their license don't count LOL j/p

when i had my 04 Alero it would spank the 3G eclipse RS we have now. just flat out leave it for dead, and that was with me driving my automatic Alero and my best friend driving the eclipse. (this man can speed shift and drive his face off)

truth of it is he needs to think in relative cost for upkeep. i'm not sure about the mustang, but my eclipse has been rather costly.

i mean aside from all the electrical problems i have had to fix. the engine a transmission are awesome. however i have ended up spending well over a grand in electrical components alone, and thats just in the 2 years we have had it.

now don't get me wrong i like my car, i mean its fun and everything, but i'd rather have a stock V6 with power than a modded 4 cylinder. mods tend to make that ever so great gas mileage go down and also affects the whole daily/driver status. plus lets not forget the fact that the mustang is rear wheel drive. Drag races better, and you can drift in it. whats not to like about that?

Good point about the rear wheel drive, you live in Canada so **** that. People park their rwd cars in the winter here in connecticut never mind Canada

well it is the summer, and not all of Canada is frozen bro. he could be from Vancouver where it is warm during spring summer and fall. he already has a 88 ranger for snow driving. i don't think he is looking to trade that in, not like he'd get much on a trade in for it anyways. why does everyone assume Canada is covered in snow 365 days a year? its just not like that!!!

Why pay insurance on a car you have to park for 5 months out of the year, I'm not making sweeping assumptions about Canada's climate, but if my choices were between a v6 mustang and a front wheel drive eclipse anywhere were winter was a legimate concern I'd probably go for the puller, not the pusher.

Uhhh people have driven rear wheel drive cars through snow for decades before everything became FWD.

Shut up quit your bitchin' buy snow tires and learn to drive in the snow. If your really worried two 50lbs bags of sand in the trunk. It boggles my mind people nowadays think they need AWD to drive in the snow. I have a jeep, it never goes in 4wd unless I am plowing or stuck in mud.

probably not, i used to live in utah. lots of hills and lots of deep snow. the eclipse isn't exactly the best FWD vehicle to have in the snow either.

If theres enough snow on the ground to where you worried you DON'T NEED TO GO ANYWHERE.

Get a dog sled team.

What's not to like about the V6 mustang....the fact that everybody and their brother has one. Now if it were a GT mustang it would be a different story cause the 4.6L V8 is an amazing engine.

And if you think a little over a grand for electrical problems in 2 years is bad, try owning a VW, $900ish for a cracked thermostat housing, another grand for an ignition coil, and $500 for a new starter. All in the time period of a month if not less. Now that's ridiculous.

But like I said it's all in what he personally likes and would rather drive every day for quite awhile.

Ok... its been a while so I figure its time for me to get someone going here.

As for BBSs' comment about an 04 Alero beating an eclipse rs, didn't Aleros come with a 3.1L V6?'

As for Silver03GSs' comment, the Mustang Gts' 4.6L V8 isnt all that great of an engine. My 06 Eclipse GT with the 3.8L V6 will match its time in the 1/4 mile. With both cars being stock the eclipse puts more HP to the ground then the Mustang GT. Yes the 4.6L puts more torque to the ground but the eclipse has a better top end. I raced one down the turnpike the one day and at 130+ mph (yes probably not the smartest decision I have ever made but it was fun) the guy in the mustang gave up because he couldn't lose me and ended up giving me and my passenger (he was by himself) the finger when I went by.

As for the original question, I wouldn't get either of them. I personally do not like the 3g eclipses or the mustangs. I would find a decent 2g car save some money and keep it for if anything went wrong or modifications. If it was taken care of and continued to be taken care of you should average similar mpg.

The Mustang GT engine isn't amazing. It is the Mach1 / Cobra engine that is amazing. DOHC 4.6 ftw
