i found a 2002 eclipse GS on craigslist and it says "I have adjusted the ECU so that it uses fuel more efficiently and gets 37 highway and 29 in town"
is this possable because if this thing actually gets 37MPG i am going to buy it.

MM? what are you talking about?

test drive it bro, test drive it. there is this newer technology that is called a HHO booster kit than can add: 4 more miles per gallon on a V8, 6 more miles on a V6, and 8 more miles on a inline 4. that is for overall driving, half city and half highway. it could be possible, but for a ECU adjust IMO i'd say no!!!!!

if you test drive it and the guy tells you that you can get a "Going Green" discount on registration, then he most likely has a HHO booster on it.

i have a neighbor who's dad sells them out of L.A. and she has it on her 05 Dodge Dakota 1500 it really does help out a lot.

thats awsome its great to see what everyone had to think about this. since i can see where some people are coming from about theres to manny mustangs on the road already i am definatly going to buy a eclipse. I was looking towards the 4cyl eclipse GS but now im thinking maybe a GT or even GTS if i can find one. i just dont want to have a really slow car but how much of a diffrence in MPG is in GS vs GT ? i need something good on gas. some people say there is only 1mpg and some people claim there is 10mpg diffrence. also do GT models have to run on premium ?

Not that much of a difference in mpg, but the GS is still an extremely nice car. Plus if you're looking for more aftermarket upgrade ability, the GS is definitely better.

And the GT's aren't THAT much faster, they are faster but the margin is not that great. I'd personally go with the GS cause I have one and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Plus the GT's are known to have more problems more often, and they're harder to work on cause there is no room in the engine bay with a GT.

And finally yes the GT does require premium.

Ford is more reliable than mitsubishi...

For instance, 3g Eclipse... been in and out of the shop constantly for a great deal of the past 3 years. Prior to that my 1g had been in the shop and never really had a chance to get out.

Ford Mustang... in the past 3 years an ignition coil went bad.

Yea but that's the V8 vs a V6. You've said it yourself that V6's are never really anything special, and they usually tend to have more probelms.

Ford's V8's are amazing, their V6's are still nothing special. The 4g64 is a much better engine. Plus you drive your car really hard pretty much all the time and you've given up on shifting it really good. With good care the 4g64 will be just fine.

No it wont. It will still be a pos mitsubishi. They should have put the 4g63 back in this thing.

And the reason I gave up on shifting good.... It might have something to do with the fact that I shifted it perfectly for almost 3 years and somehow the transmission went out. Why even try to shift good when you know the tranny sucks as bad as it does.

I've hated this car ever since then.

Yea but I just think you had a faulty tranny. When Mitsu tested them at the factory, they lasted 270,000 miles before anything went wrong. I don't know what to say besides you got a faulty transmission.

Besides it's not like you driving it hard doesn't take a tole on transmissions, I mean every time you drive your car hard it takes some life off of the transmission.
