ok there is a 2000 gt eclipse i am looking at getting. 74k miles. test drove it and was sound vehicle but the steering wheel shook at higher speeds. is that normal for eclipses? the car is a 5sp if that matters. please let me know what i should look at on the car before i get it so i know if they need to replace anything.

Does it shake shimmy when you hit the brakes or all the time? because mine used to do that because the discs where warped, resurfaced for $20 and no problems.

It's normal if something needs repair.

Either have the dealer correct the issue - or buy a different car. It's either warped rotors, alignment, or tires needing balance.

Hey, my 01 eclipse gt does that, it starts to shake at like 75 or around ther and it really shakes at around 90..so i dont know if theres a problem or what but otherwise it drives fine, so must not be major..

Or you could have crappy tires that are really low speed rated and they start to misshape at higher speeds causing the vibrations in the steering wheel.

Simply another suggestion.

have a look to see if the balancing weights are on all 4 wheels. if not, probably one's fell off. also, mis-matched tires could cause the problem. see if you get a flat that's unrepairable and replace just the one tire, without properly balancing the wheels, that could be the cause as well.
