Ok this is a two part question. First off I want to replace the exhaust system in my 2003 Lancer OZ Rally 5spd. I was thinking about doing a section at a time as money becomes available... Cat back, then High flow catalytic converter, then headers. As opposed to just getting them all at once and doing the whole system in one shot. What do you guys think about it?

Second question: In my search for all of these parts (which I still haven't found a high flow cat) I came across just one site that had headers on it and at that it's a "Universal Flowtech Header Pipe". Has anyone heard of this part/brand? I don't know that headers are universal and I only vaguely know the company Flowtech. As well it's pretty cheap and I do go by the saying "You get what you pay for."

Thanks in advance.

I would wait till you have all the money for the parts. And I woul dnot buy a cat back ex. system.. I find they're over priced. I just bought a 2003 OZ rally with 30000 miles on it and upgrading right now. I am putting headers, high flow cat and a performance flowmaster muffler. 200$ + 50$ + 100$ for the whole system.

why do you think the cat back systems are over-rated? and where did you find your high flow cat?

The cat-back is only a peice of pipe and a muffler... And you want to pay like 500 700$ for that... be my guest lol. I'm buying some headers on road race motor sport, cat on ebay and a high flow flowmaster muffler.. bring that to the shop and tell them to install it and they will bend the pipes for it... that wat you have the complete xaust system for less then 900$ compared to a peice of pipe and a muffler aka cat back... P.S. check to see what is a good size for the xaust... i'm thinking 2.25 or 2.50 inch... probably 2.5"
hope it help
the cat is an OBX...

i can see what you mean, and wow i didn't know road race sold as much as they do. found the high flow cat and the headers. although i like to do all my own work so i might just have them bend and/or weld whatever needs be done and then do the install myself. I'm inclined to agree with you on 2.5" exhaust, as its not overly huge but not small either; I don't like the exhaust thats on the car now... it's gotta be what 1" tip? maybe 1.5 but whatever it is, it's **** small.

I know, the car has a real problem on it's breathing side.. intake and xaust. I recently put a e-bay cold air intake and There is a big difference... I'm saving money during winter time and this is what i'm doing.... header/cat/muffler/intake manifold... later on cam stage 1 and throttle body my 2003 OZ lancer has only 50000KM or 30000miles if your american... I'm canadian btw lol new brunswick

ahh yeah i'm american, from nj. i was about to say why are you mentioning the winter when it's about 85 degrees out? hahahaha. but that's cool i've always wanted to visit canada sometime, my parents went to Quebec on a cruise for their wedding anniversary one year....anyway lol..

yeah i agree completely with that. the stock intake where it's secured to the car is actually broken on mine. plastic bit broke. it still functions the same but if you look at how big the intake is, it's like wtf man? i should probably get a new air filter too but i've been trying to wait so i can get a cold air... sigh no money. lol

for the air intake.. go on ebay.. i paid 30$ for a complete cold air intake system.. the filter is located under the battery... I had to cut the pipe do on curve to many... but i cant keep it during thw winter time cuz it will freeze my MAF sensor lol and **** up the sensor. there's a site..

it's a guide line for upgrading

http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php?optio...d=181&Itemid=51

for a good muffler
http://www.autopartsway.ca/acp/index.cfm?I...1~YR5~CT86~SC88

I hate the ****ing fart cans like on all the civics lol

My opinion for the best bang for the bucks...
Cold air intake (ebay 60$) Good headers(400$) Cat(50-80$) muffler(100-120$)
Intake manifold(350$) throttle body(350) and (meaby) the cam shaft stage 1
This will give you a really good sleeper car.... I would not touch the exterior. its really nice tires are cheaper to 15"
