Hey guys i had the egr valve insufficient flow problem a few times and I cleaned it about 3 weeks ago and haven't had the CEL since. The car does idle a little weird sometimes though and i know its still clogged somewhat so i got a egr blockoff plate from CI Motorsports. I didnt get any instructions with it and want to know how to install this thing and where the smaller plate goes. I know you but one between the head and the egr but where does the other go and what hoses do i disconnect/plug or can i just remove the egr all together. Any help is appreciated and pictures would be great if you have them, thanks.

thanks pwee, installed it before i checked back in here and it worked it thankfully. I just put the two plates and gasket in and didnt remove anything and it fixed my idle problem and runs better as of now. CI motorsports plates are legit and easy simple install.

ahhh, well the rough idle went away and car feels really good but the check engine light came on this morning as soon as i got to work.
pwee What pipe were yout talking about removing?

As i stated i put the two plates in, 1 between engine and egr and 1 between intake pipe and egr. What else do i have to do to get rid of the CEL when i used this kit? (hoses, egr completely remove, connections remove/plug?) Thanks again so far,

that is the problem with those kits, they block the EGR at the wrong place on the sensor and turn your CEL on. They are a bad design. Remove the block off plate at the EGR valve and follow the steps below.

http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php...indpost&p=84269

on your EGR valve there was a pipe that ran from the valve to the back of the intake manifold. take the pipe and remove it's flanges, you will need them.

in that linked post I mentioned buying steel from lowes but you can use a beer or soda can if you don't wrinkle the metal.

using the flanges from the pipe trace them on the metal but don't trace the hole in the middle of the flange, only trace the shape and holes for the bolts. cut the piece you traced. Then install it where the pipe would install, with a gasket coated in high temp silicone using the pipe flange.

Make sure you have all the vacuum lines still attached to the valve and then, voila, EGR blocked and no check engine light.

ok that sound good, just have to remove that pipe. I already have a plate blocking the one side that connect to the egr so will only need to make one more plate to blockoff where it connects to the intake. I'll try getting it done when i get home and thanks so much  you earned a virtual beer from me haha.

Pwee you might be able to answer me on this since you live in Pa just like I do. If you do that can they fail you for emissions?

it depends on what county you live in. Some counties don't even require emissions like Somerset (where I grew up on the border with Cambria County) Cambria county requires emissions but it's a "visual" with a gas cap check.

Allegheny County (Go Steelers!) requires an OBDII scan. Basically they hook up a datalogger and start your vehicle. A machine takes over from there checking for trouble codes and malfunctioning emission control devices such as the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator)

If you leave the valve funtional and just remove the pipe like I explained above the car still thinks the valve is working properly and you will pass any emissions test. The only test that could fail you is the visual, BUT most inspection guys won't even notice it's gone unless they know dsm's. Most of the time if they do notice the pipe is gone but the valve and everything else is there they don't say anything.

Well strike 2, that didn't work. The way i did it was:
I removed that long pipe and put a blockoff plate at both ends (1. where it connected to egr and 2.where it connects to the intake manifold), and left the plate between the egr valve and the head. So i have a total of 3 blockoff plates in now.

pwee
If I read your post correctly I should take out that plate from between the head and the EGR because it's messing up the sensor? (and leave the 2 plates that replaced that long pipe in) I thought the head-egr connection was the primary part that you want to be blocked to bypass the EGR, hmm if you say it'll get rid of the CEL i'll do it because the above two methods didn't work.

And nice we're all in PA, and the weekly heatwaves <_<

Haha thats great. Cedrock when is the next time your car needs to be inspected? If its soon then you can tell me if it passes emissions because I also live in bucks county. I was just wondering because I heard if you remove it you will fail your emissions test. I didnt know if blocking it off would be the equivalent as removing it.

Nice another Bucks County resident haha, we're gonna have to get an Eclipse meet going hehe.

Fortunately my inspection is in December but my registration is up in a few days... so I won't know for a while. Im guessing it should be fine, got to work without CEL ill update if it comes back.

wife is from punxsatawney

did you remove the plate between the head and sensor?

Finally Found it, doesn't sound good

"PA EMISSIONS TESTING

Bucks County is located in an enhanced emissions area. Federal law requires loaded mode emissions testing in all enhanced emission areas. PennsylvaniaÕs emissions program is one of the most successful in the country and is currently being copied in other states. It consists of a visual inspection of emission control devices, a gas cap pressure test, and a loaded mode emissions test. Most vehicles newer than 1981 are required to have loaded mode emissions testing. PA does not operate state inspection facilities, all testing and repairs are done by private inspection centers."

you might just want to hook the whole system back up.
