Oh wow... that's insane. I wonder if my dealership sold my car with old tires too. Now I have to go check out all the other tires on my cars!

In a way I'm happy I read this, but at the same time... overly P.O'ed.

That article seemed more "scare tactic" and less facts. Typical of media these days.

The article doesn't mention accidents proven to be caused by "6-10 year old tires", or link/mention any actual studies or evidence that these tires are no longer any good. The recommendations by the car companies could be based as much on handling and lowest-common-denominator lifetime limits for tire life.

I'd assume if its a decent tire and is stored properly the tires would be fine for up to 10 years.

wheres manybrews when you need him??? I wonder about the so called "aged" tires. What is the shelf life on one of these babies?
It makes you wonder about whats really on your car. I guess if the tread is fine and it works who cares how old it is!

I hate to admit it, but while finishing up high school I worked for a Super Walmart in the Tire and Lube sections doing oil changes and new tires. When I was being trained I was told about this and the exact meaning of the numbers at the end. Yes it is the truth about the age of the tires, and theres more messed up stuff when it come to tires at walmart....

When a customer purchases the tires, we were required to put the numbers on the invoice after the tires were installed and never told to the customers so if they came back saying anything... all we have to do is state that the age was on thier invoice.

Also... the walmart I worked at was brand new, but we had tires that were well over 10years old. The reason behind it was that the corporation would buy these tires in large quantity and put them in a storage facility until they needed to stock certain stores.

You cant trust anything no a days... but it is true that its not fully proven that the age of a brand new tire will effect its longevity. I watch for it and I think everyone should... newer is always better.

I was so happy when this story came out, I use to tell people about this and no one believed me until this aired on the TV. Good post.

What are you talking about? She'll probably get Dirty Red too!

I checked my tires and they were made early 2007... a couple months before I bought my car. Not too shabby, but I'm having a hell of a time reading some of my other cars... YEESH!
