I love the way the stock system pounds, but I can't help but feel that it's unbalanced. The stock sub is strong enough to make the left side view mirror and my rear view mirror vibrate, but the right side view mirror doesn't even flinch! Now, I like the position of the stock sub... right in the left hand corner that I would never use to begin with. Unfortunately, due to the location, the sound produced isn't exactly even and I'm considering another sub to even out the output. I don't want a huge box taking up half my trunk which is where my question comes in...

Is it possible to install another stock RF subwoofer in the RIGHT corner (with the casing), opposite of the current subwoofer in my car? I don't see any issues with fitment since it's the same depth as the left side and the casing looks fairly symmetrical so it should fit in the right side.

Possible? Yay or nay my good friends. I appreciate any input!

I thought about the same thing when I bought the car.

It is possible if you split the rear signal in 2.
The problem I ran into is to make it look flush... you'll need to make a molding for the right side yourself. :P

The amp is outputting x power to the subwoofer. if you get another one, you'll split the power in half, and probably not end up with the full volume, as there is some loss.

also, sub's have a "minimum" safe power for operation. Anything less will harm the woofer, so you'll have to make sure 1/2 the power to both wont damage both.

I'd say look for a wrecked lancer/someone who upgraded the sound system and replaced the stock R/F system and see if you can buy it. Then custom make the sub box to fit/match and you're all set.

that's what i have been thinking about doing. Cut the main power running to the sub, attach an amp to the top of the trunk out of the way then run two wires, one to each sub. I'm sure you could buy one easy enough. If you didn't want to mess with it i'm sure a car audio store would do it for you as well, just buy the sub and have it waiting for them to install.

personally if I were you, I would go to an audio installation shop, tell them what you want to do and with what. Give them your budget, and get a nice clean professional job done. Especially since you want to put it in the side, if you cut too big, its going to look horrible and you will have a hard time trying to sell the car when you decide to. Just explain you don't want to cut any power from the side....or if you want you could have to remove the other sub and put that and the second one straight into the floor of the trunk. Just another idea for ya.

And just so you know the sub is only going to be about $100 and I don't think it is high watts so the amp prob wont be more than $300.

See what I'm thinking right now is removing the stock sub and seeing if it will fit in the other side. I checked out the shape and both the sub box and the trunk seem pretty symmetrical so it just might fit on either side. I just need to test it out.

I was considering splitting the signal just to make things easier, but I want to avoid installing another amp in my trunk. Right now, I just need to find out if the stock amp is strong enough to take another RF sub.

Thanks everybody!

The Stock amp isn't capable of powering another sub, it will make you lose power to all your speakers and sub. I don't know that much more on this subject, but if you want to do any sound enhancements you have to get rid of the stock amp.
