Hi there everyone i have recentley purchased a mitsey space wagon as i have a tribe of children to drag around, the wagon is a L reg 2.0 GLXI auto and today the check engine light has come on and has stayed on normally it goes off after the car has started but now it dont. I have only had this car for 4 weeks and it drives perfectley but now this and the mrs is going nuts thinking that the thing is going to blow up or something like that.

Any help would be great
I am nearley divorced over this :)

All the best
shane

my dear friend, there is not that much of worrying to be had. its a check engine warning light. not the engine failure light. just take your car to a local auto parts store. i'm not sure what one in the UK will do it. however there are auto parts stores that will scan your check engine light for free.

run to one of these places and ask them to scan it. once the scan has been done they will have some codes. have them check the codes in their computer. they can now offer possible problems, parts, and prices of parts, to fix your car from throwing a check engine code.

once this is done, you can begin the arduous task of testing which possible problem you are having. make sure to buy a repair manual with information according to your make model and year of car. refer to each problem. read up on what is needed to do everything. then start from the cheap/free problems, and work your way up to the more expensive ones. depending on what problem it is it can cost anywhere from about 2 dollars to fix all the way up to about 200. most check engine codes will refer you to an emission control unit.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply i have done a quick read of the user guide book for the car and as you say it reffers to a emissions fault, i was thinking maybe a lamba sensor or something alone them lines i maybe realy wrong with that but it was only a guess.

I will try and get the ECU read and see what it comes up with

Thanks for everything
Shane
