Its basically a new air box that is stainless steel and sealed off and blocks the engines heat from getting to the air filter.

Some people have manufactured a way to put an AC vent in there but in my opinion that does more hurt then good by having to run the ac compressor.

i've never heard of them producing a high enough boost in performance to get all gung-ho about them.

Like EMC said they do restrict the area that the intake system can draw in air from. And having an A/C line supply cooling for it is pointless

It is for when you have a liquid to air intercooler.. instaed of running the liquid to the directly back from the intercooler to the motor it first makes a pass though a box in the trunk thats filled with ice to cool the liquid even more .. then goes back to the core located usually before the head somewhere.. like under the supercharger and above the intake manifold... hope that helps...

Thats more closely to wut i kno an ice box is. Like for meeh , and others that have converted to side mounted charge air coolers , rather than the traditional one in front of the radiator. Most have one or in my case 2 side mount charge air coolers at each corner each bumper aft the fender well , and there are sections , boxt type where yu can pack ice into it to further cool down the charge air cooler and bring charge air temps down alot to make more HP. Guys that run like Celica's have use this also with also the liquid to air cooler , and guys with Subaru's like a guiy i kno with a B4 Legacy has his on top of the engine as his original , but its wider to hold ice in a tray and has a water run off.

I wonder if liquid Nitrogen would do the same? I have seen many tankers with the ice cold white looking air flowing down the sides.
Just a thought.
