I have been tryin to decide what i am goin to do.. my lifters need replacing, i need to have a valve job at 130,000 i was told.. (at 119,000 now) its just tickin like crazy.. so i have been watching for a good deal on a whole new head.. rather than dumpin the money in a rebuild i figured i would just find a good deal and swap

Now, i believe i found one, but just want some opinions on what to look for and as a newb still what should i know before tacklin this project.. also, would this be the right time to swap anything else out already having the head off...

Why do some people put in 1g cams? is there an advantage? thanks!!!!

1g turbo cams have more lift.

you don't need to remove the head to put lifters in. just take the timing belt off and you might as well replace it and the timing parts. then remove the valve cover. remove the cams. remove the rockers. remove lifters, install the new ones and put everything back together. done and for probably under $200

Got ya... thanks...

1. I want the tick gone...

2. I hear that the valves need to be redone at this higher milage..

3. my valve seals are goin bad.. burning oil..

4. the cost of rebuilding looks to be the same as what i can get this one for already done..

so 1g cams will provide more flow=more power then right?

and to be clear, a 1g head will not fit a 2g bottom end correct?

There is a swap for a 1g head. I don't know much about it because it seems kinda worthless :/

1. It won't go away. It will almost always be there. Deal with it.

2. Its a very good idea to get new vales.

3. Its your valve seals are going then you need to either rebuild or get a new one.

So with that said, i think its obvious you need to be looking @ rebuild prices or used heads. Speaking of which i know a mechanic with a bunch of 1g and 2g heads. PM me if you're interested, they will be cheap.

Hi!

I got the SBR Stg.2 race head in my car. It does not tick! It's a factory new core they started with. Nitrated valves, crover springs and retainers, stock cams.

If they didn't use the updated lifter design I promise you in about 40 - 50,000 miles it will be ticking.

They made the oil hole larger. Thats what I mean by new lifters. The new design.
