My most recent 2 cars before the Lancer had a nice feature. When you pulled off (reached 5 or 10km/h) after getting in and starting your car, the central locking used to auto lock all round. I'm certainly missing this feature in the Lancer as I certainly am not used to manually locking doors any more.

Any chance any clever chaps out there may have a solution for me to retro fit or make up to get some kind of solution for this?

Thanks

I've wondered about this as well. In the Navi there's an option where you can have all doors unlock when you shift to park, but I've seen nothing that locks the doors automatically. I would love it if they locked again when I shift to drive.

I'm afraid not. Some aftermarket alarm systems support this feature, but we don't have it.

I find it really weird that the doors will unlock when you shift to Park, but they don't lock when you shift to drive. Silly Mitsu!

I'd have really liked this as well.
The sad thing is everything is there and the only thing Mitsu needed to do was to have the feature set up in the ECU. This car's computer is tightly integrated with pretty much all functions so it was really surprising to not have this feature.

I can't believe you people like that feature. I had it on my Grand Am and found it so annoying! AHHH!!!! Then again mine didn't unlock when you put it in park or came to a stop. Thank god we don't have it!

Yeah just incase of accident emergency when rescuer or etc wanted to rescued the driver or passenger out of the car and then only realised the door is locked !
I think Auto lock is not a very wise idea to be featured on,unless like they say u live in fear in a world where somebody might just rob u while stopping at the stop light.

I don't know which model Grand AM you had but on the most recent model you could have disable it easily through directions in the manual. It was also possibly to program it to unlock all doors when you went to Park or when the driver opened his/her door.

It's a good security feature for women and children! Believe it or not a lot of females drive the lancer too and not all of them are Wonder Woman.

As far as that goes, all the cars I've seen with this feature automatically unlock the doors as soon as airbags go off. Mercedes and BMW go as far as turning on the hazards as well not just to make it easy for the responders to flag the car but also to give them an indication as to wheter the battery is connected or not. They also shut the engine, shut the fule pump and in the case of some BMW's disconnect the main battery terminal.

I don't know where you live but in South Los Angeles it could get real nasty and scary if you take just a few wrong turns.

very simple, just add a relay and connect between to your hand brake and central locking, lock signal wire inside the driver doors.

when you start to drive the car, definitely you will need to release the hand brake, when release the hand brake, this will activate the relay and send a -12vdc to central lock and lock the door.

inside the driver door lock you can see 5 wire, 2 = motor drive wire, 1= -12vdc and 2 = central lock control (lock & unlock wire), just tape this wire to the lock wire, you will get the auto lock function when release hand brake.

Yes, thanks for the response. :liebe011: I am use to a car that automatically locks when car is put in drive. I personally love the feature. I will try your suggestion and hope that it works.

I occasionally pick up my 2 years old nephew with a child seat in the back. My biggest fear is to have him somehow pulled on the door latch while the car is moving. I have to remind myself to lock the door for this reason. Other than that I don't foresee any reason to have auto lock. My brother in-law have the feature in his Tundra and I find it a little annoying.

Um you can do the child-safety lock on the door and not use the locking door mechanism, just makes it unlockable from outside and not inside.

AFTER READING ALL POSTS.. I THINK WE CULD ALL AGREE THAT IT WOULD BE VERY NICE IF MITSU OR SOMEONE CREATED A PATCH SO THAT WE COULD HAVE THE OPTION ON THE NAVI, SO WHO EVER LIKES IT CAN PUT IT ON, AND THOSE WHO HATE IT COULD DISABLE IT WHENEVER. ANY IDEAS WHO CAN MAKE A PATCH FOR THAT? THEY ALREADY CREATED THE PATCH FOR WATCHING DVDs WHILE MOVING.

The patch only removes the block that prevents you from watching DVDs while moving. Normally, you are able to watch movies while moving... but US law prohibits it. That's why the patch is there.

There is no ECU function to lock the doors when you move, so there is nothing to patch.

It is recommended to drive with doors locked for safety reasons OTHER than being jacked. This is in the manual. Also in the manual is mention that the NAVI package can change settings, or a dealer can do it (for non-NAVI package). Is there a way we can do it ourselves, because I think the dealer might charge a lot for a feature that is available but disabled by default :(

They'll charge like $40 to do it. I've never read about the feature being in the manual. What page is it on?
