So if unlocking is possible, why isn't locking possible? Or is it, without the wiring of the locks to the handbrake.

No, I haven't looked into this any more.
I've attached the 4 diagrams from the workshop manual regarding the central locking system, so that may help to establish where to tap into for signals.
