Hello everybody new to the site just bought a 03 eclipse GTS and i already have problems with it the only thing is that the guys at the shop say its a miss fire on the #2 cylinder. They said that some water could have gotten in the engine when they where detailing it. So the first time they clear the code. second time they replace the spark plug on the #2 cylinder. third time they replace all the front end spark plugs and the distributor cap and the rotor in the cap. and now its still miss fires. the only time it miss fires is when i really hit on the gas when I'm on the interstate. but it idles normal and it seems to run ok and everything so can anybody help me with this problem?

Replace your ignition coils and see if that's the problem if not you could need new injectors or they just need cleaned. Both can cause you to misfire bad under hard acceleration.

No problem, once you get it fixed let us know what it ended up being so people later can use this as a guide for if they have the same problem.

The timing belt wouldn't be the most likely cause of a cylinder misfire. Go to a local autozone or advanced auto parts (or something like that around you) and tell them what you're looking for and they'll tell be able to locate an ignition coil or something like that. That's the best way to find one.

Don't know I've never had to work on the V6 in these cars thank goodness. But either when you call the auto parts store they might be able to tell you, or it will be posted in the online service manual at the top of the 3g section. Check there and it should be able to help you out.

well i figured out today that i don't have coil ignition just a distributor. so now im going to check the fuel injectors and have them do a compression check on it after that i don't know what to do.

If any of that doesn't fix your problem, I would just take it to a mechanic cause it's probably beyond a "do-it-yourself" kind of job if none of that fixes it.

timing
ECU(main)
spark plugs
injectors(clog up)(can be a reason)
coil
v6 has distrbutor also cannot be sending the power to wires
v6 is a beeeethch to work on that intake manifold needs to come off to work on it.

well like i said before 3gd that it could not be the spark plugs because they changed that one in the #2 cylinder with a stock one so i don't think it could be that. the second thing is that if it was the actual distributor won't the code then read all miss fire or a random miss fire then? but thank for the input thought i would have never thought about the ECU until now. I will have them check that first then the fuel injectors and hopefully i can get them to do a check on the timing belt. And one more thing can they do a test on the distributor itself?

The thing you are calling a distributer should be your coil. It should be distributer-less. Direct from the coil to the plugs. The ecu controls the distribution of the spark. As for your timing if it was that you would be getting a misfire on more then 1 cyl if not all of them.

WAYNE the I4 is straight from ecu to coilpack
the V6 has a distributor FYI.
