well i was talking to one of my friends from another state who is a mechainic and he looked up the papers on my cars again and said that the PCM needs to be reprogrammed. So i went on like and looked for some codes or any other links to this and i found this one:

http://www.ae-diagnosticsolutions.com/Docs...pdf/mut3ecu.pdf

and when you get to this link scroll down and you will see that on the 03 eclipse it says problem "high speed miss fire" and it gives the code to use and stuff now i just need to know if i can take it back to the dealership which i bought it from or go to a Mitsubishi dealership to have them do it.

hey guess i wish i had good new put i have not got my car in the shop yet waiting on a pay check but i will still downing research on the problem i was having. The first thing is that i called the local Mitsubishi dealership and told them how much would it cost to re-flash the pcm with the code i found on the net.

dealership: whats wrong with it?

me: its miss firing on #2 cylinder.

dealership: how do you know that?

me: the place where i bought it at said thats what the code stood for.

dealership: well what code did it pop up?

me: they never told me, just said that the code stood for miss fire on #2 cylinder.

dealership: well i have never heard of that code problem before and don't think it could ever do that. Plus we have been having trouble with other shops giving out wrong codes.

me: but do you think it could be the pcm?

dealership: no

me: well do you atleast think it could be the fuel injector?

dealership: yes

me: finally we agree on something.
lol

so i guess my question is do you guys think i could trust these guys working on my car or they just going to screw me over?

Sorry. I figured that since almost any car nowadays has a coil pack that it was the same. My mistake. If you don't have an external coil then it is a cap with a coil built into it.

Before you take the car into the dealer if thats what you plan on doing try to get the light to come back on if its not already. If they are so worried about having shops give out wrong info when reading codes let them read it for themselves.

As for an injector being bad, when I bought my 96 gs I had a #4 cylinder misfire code that kept popping up but it only came on after it idled for about 20 - 30 secs. The dealer insisted it was a bad or dirty injector. I replaced the injector and it didn't fix the problem. I ended up having a blown intake manifold gasket.

If they still insist that it is a bad injector make them put it in writing that that is the problem and whatever they do will fix the issue. That way if it doesn't fix the issue you take it back to them show them the paper that they gave you and tell them its not fixed fix it.

Dealers make their money from the service dept. If you give them the $250+ or whatever it is now for them to clean your injectors or replace one and it doesn't fix the issue they aren't going to lose any sleep over it. They already have your money and then you will "have to" bring your car back to them and pay them more money to diagnose and "fix" the problem again.

Dealerships always screw you over. I mean they said that your engine couldn't possibly be misfiring on cylinder number 2. Dealerships suck man, I got a code read at Autozone and it was the right one. So I trust their computer more than the dealerships. Cause autozone will tell you the code you're throwing plus what it means.

Autozone reads your code for free. That's why that's the best place to get your codes read at, they've never given me a wrong code and it's free, can't beat free.

The 3800... durable... from the Grand Prix you mean.

That is laughable. The LT series was durable.

well finally got the car in the shop. the guy who was working on it knew what he was talking about, but he could not replicate the error because i was going 78 mph and 95% throttle and so forth. be he said it could not be a cylinder problem so he said it could be a fuel injector. so we put in some kb cleaner in it and see if that work. this is just a updated.

UPDATE: well check engine soon light came back on while i was on the interstate. i had planned on taking it to the shop on Friday but i know what the code is going to read again. so im just going to take it to auto zone and have the code clear and take it back later because i don't have the money right now to do anymore work on it.
