G'day,

I have a 9/1995 NJ Pajero with a 3.5 l, V6 DOHC 24 valve engine. I am interested in any one who has converted the same/similar engine to LPG. Currently I am looking into the sequential gas injection system.

I have requested information from the local dealer and the Head Office in Australia. The internet detail that this particular vehicle is not LPG compatible; however, no one can tell me the exact components that are the problem such as valves, valve seats, pistons?????? I have been provided with “LPG may accelerate the wear of the internal components", this is not very specific information.

I have been a mechanic for 18 years and I am interested in the specific facts as I can not afford to keep running the car with the current fuel prices and the vehicle suits all of my other requirements.

The second item is that I am searching for a specific workshop manual for the same vehicle and engine in an electronic format.

Thanks in advance

Cheers Andy

There are many reasons , older models i have seen done this , the older 3.0 etc. BUt as for the 3.5 SOCH 24 and especially DOCH 24 are a differant case in point. Ive owned a 1997 DOCH 3.5 as for other that have 3.5 DOCH models. Reasons are specifically for this , as i know of the DOCH heads on the 3.5 are teh same as on a GTO's with MIVEC, for one case in point is that the heads are MIVEC which is variable timing for once , The direct ignition system and injection pattern on these models. The total engine management is far more complex, Its a no go as far as i see it on LPG , not to mention teh compression ratio.

The engine that I have is not GDI or MIVEC. The petrol is injected towards the inlet valves. The comments you have made are not for the engine that I have.

To comenlly put pretty much all electronic fuel injection injects gas in the intake port right before the intake valve. . Yur engine for starters had a distributorless ignition system , self adjusted by the computer for starters, Also attempting to run LPG would cause loads of knock retard , and ignition timing related issues. The older distributored models yu can most likely are closer to doing a conversion. But there are a whole host of obvious reasons of why yu cannot LPG this engine, its just like to also say hey lets LPG BMW's M50B28 engine
