I was just checking out some websites for fun, and noticed that on Howell Automotive, there are long block and short block 420a motor available.
What are the differences between these motor, how do I know if I have a long block, or short block in my car, and if I have a short block, can I put a long block in it, or vice versa?
I/m not thinking of buying anything any time soon, I am just looking for some info.

Did you read what was included in each shortblock/longblock? Check it out and bring back what you learned.

c'mon guys, go easy on 'em. I only recently found out what the difference between the two were recently from watching LOTS of Horsepower TV.

Anyways, a short block is just the basic block as well as pistons, water pump, and fuel pump. I think sometimes you get an alternator, athough I am not sure.

A long block is the whole engine, including exhaust manifold, intake manifold, head, valve train, and all that.

At least that's what I have gathered usually comes with the large V8's on Horsepower TV...

Thanks for the info.
I understand what Rob was trying to do, and get me to use my brain (I actually made the post, but didn't realize my wife was still signed in. Duh.), and I respect that.

usually the 4cyl long blocks don't come with either manifold.
