QUOTE(pwee05 @ Jul 18 2008, 02:21 PM)
can you take a pic under the hood, specifically fuel pressure regulator and injectors?  your a/f numbers are perfectly fine.  I'm willing to bet the previous owner did more mods that what was originally thought.  I'm also willing to bet that your intake temps are too high if you are running that much boost on a stock smic and that's what is causing your knock

Ok, I'll get them to you by tomorrow. The regulator appears stock, but then again, I'm not too familiar with this motor. Anything you need specific with the injectors? or just an above view?

btw- smic? Sorry for the ignorance on that one :) Something with the intercooler? Small Mount Intercooler? Would I need to get a front mount one, like this one?

Or is there something better/cheaper?

Thanks pwee for being there man.

Here are all of my pics:

Please let me know if you need any more/better pics. I don't know if you want me to pull the injectors, but let me know. It was hard to get a cam in there... I'll be happy to help where I can. NOt to scam you guys for another prob, but I also noticed something wierd last night while driving... After running on the highway and getting into city driving, I noticed that whenever I let the car idle, the oil light would flicker on, but as soon as I idled it up a little it would go away... I do have enough oil, nothing was leaking, and my oil pressure gauge was registering in between the bottom line and first line (at idle) at normal driving, the oil pressure gauge was fine - in between the middle line and top line. After the car cooled a little, it did not come on for the rest of the evening. I did add some STP oil treament to thicken up the viscosity a little to at least get home. I figured that the oil was running hot and the vicosity was too thin for whatever reason? It is running 10w-30 conventional right now. I don't know if a sensor is failing, or if I do have a prob. Obviously oil lights are not good... I noticed no abnormal idling/knocking during the symptoms.

You can also see the ghetto j-pipe in the pics I had to rig up because of the cluster ____ of a pipe that the previous owner had in it. When I get a formal j-pipe I'll post a pic of the disaster that they home-made...

As far as running so much boost, do you think it's possible that my wastegate is not opening up properly? I think I am going to tap into the vacuum line using my boot gauge to see if I get any pressure on the line during operation.

Thanks!

get that j-pipe in there are soon as you can. i have a feeling you're right about the wastegate actuator. it is probably not hooked up. if it was, unless a boost controller was spun the whole way out, it shouldn't ever go past 20psi

Just thought I'd give an update on my project.

Checked wastegate actuator, it was functioning correctly. However, the previous owners used it as a cheap boost controller, adjusting it so that the wastegate only opened up a 1/4 turn. Adjusted linkage correctly and now I'm running a safe (or at least better) pressure of 10-15psi. Looks like problem solved for now.

Thanks for all of the help and support!

Dan
