I'm at 57,000 miles on my Eclipse GTS 2004 and I know I'm due for my 60k maintenance appointment soon. My mechanic said it's a timely, important, and expensive maintenance point for my car. I called him today for a rough price estimate and he said between $600-800 depending on the condition of everything under my hood.

1. What is an appropriate price for a 60K maintenance job if they do everything that Mitsubishi recommends replacing via the owner's manual at 60K?

2. What are the major things they should be doing during my 60K maintenance ie. what should I have them quote me for in my estimate?

This depends on how you maitain your car, one thing for sure though that if you flush your coolant at regular interval you will get a longer life on your water pump.

Who lied to you?

You should always replace the water pump and timing belt at the same time. The timing belt runs the water pump, and if you install a new belt, it will destroy the water pump. Likewise if you do a water pump without a timing belt, the timing belt will snap.
