hey y'all i have come across a snafu. it seems the local dsm dealer only hires retards and crackheads so no-one at the parts desk knows what a fuel pump relay is...i told him location, purpose and everything, but without a part number he is basically use-less...and they seem dis-pleased at the concept of me fixing my own car in the first place, but why would i let folks that dont know what a fuel pump relay is work on my car?

basically i came to the conclusion the relays i need are the 2 on the firewall between the battery and steering wheel...2 relays connected with a metal bracket. and since they are connected and dont seem to come off the brackett i assume i gotta get them both, but thats cool i was gonna anyway.

so what i need from you guys an gals, if you or a friend has a 97 with a 420a go look at those relays i just described and find me a parts number if you have a few spare minutes please. i will be eternally gratefull....see mine have a 5 digit matching number on both relays...and they said at the dealership it is not a part number and it shows nothing when they type the number in. i am quite sure its o.e.m. an it came on the car. he said to bring it down and he could try to match it, but i am a bit leery of trusting thier judgement. so if mine is a replacement already and someone knows the original part number, or what i need to ask for exactly so i can know for sure if they have it. i dont want to go all the way to the dealership to find out i have no choice but to hit a junkyard, lol

go to a dodge dealership, they will know exactly what you are talking about.

oh, one more thing, you might have to tell them it's a talon because if they know its a mitsu they might send you back to the mitsu dealer.

My experience with the fuel pump relay is it costs more then the engine relay that is next to it. The only difference is that they both are keyed different so you cant switch the plugs around. My suggestion is buy the engine relay pop it apart and put just the internals in your fuel pump relay box.

Oh and if they dont know what a fuel pump relay is then I think its time for you to start to look for a different dealer to goto. As pwee said goto a dodge dealership and say its for a talon esi. I had to do that for a backup light switch. The local mitsu dealer that i will goto (because I have only gotten attitude problems from the other one looking for parts) would have had to order it and sometimes it takes forever to get parts with them. The Dodge dealer had the part in stock.

lol well sex hotline might end up bein what i need too cuz i cant drive nowhere an get laid till i fix this car :-)

pwee would you believe me if i said the dodge dealership is more inept then the mitsu dealer. they need you guys to go work for them an stuff.

oh and what i thought was my fuel pump relay turns out to be the 5 spped tranny relay. so i guess i have yet to figure out where it actually is. i got the 2 that were connected by a bracket on the drivers side of the firewall between the battery and the steering wheel. so those are the wrong ones, i am lost, because every relay i think is the one i am looking for turns out to be something else.

time to phone jersey,lol

yup i called that number and they found my parts number no problem. jeff wasnt in but whoever was did know his stuff. and those were the right relays, just whoever looked it up at the one here in town is a ***** and didn't know what he was talking about. these are totally the right ones.

if its not the relays, i need to check the pump to see if it comes on when i hit it with juice.

so my next silly newb question, where is this alleged fuel pump test connector that the haynes manual ellude to/ its harder to find then the g-spot for a dwarf.

or is there another way, i dont wanna do it wrong an blow me and the car up,lol
