hey y'all i have come across a snafu. it seems the local dsm dealer only hires retards and crackheads so no-one at the parts desk knows what a fuel pump relay is...i told him location, purpose and everything, but without a part number he is basically use-less...and they seem dis-pleased at the concept of me fixing my own car in the first place, but why would i let folks that dont know what a fuel pump relay is work on my car?
basically i came to the conclusion the relays i need are the 2 on the firewall between the battery and steering wheel...2 relays connected with a metal bracket. and since they are connected and dont seem to come off the brackett i assume i gotta get them both, but thats cool i was gonna anyway.
so what i need from you guys an gals, if you or a friend has a 97 with a 420a go look at those relays i just described and find me a parts number if you have a few spare minutes please. i will be eternally gratefull....see mine have a 5 digit matching number on both relays...and they said at the dealership it is not a part number and it shows nothing when they type the number in. i am quite sure its o.e.m. an it came on the car. he said to bring it down and he could try to match it, but i am a bit leery of trusting thier judgement. so if mine is a replacement already and someone knows the original part number, or what i need to ask for exactly so i can know for sure if they have it. i dont want to go all the way to the dealership to find out i have no choice but to hit a junkyard, lol

QUOTE(oni_yuurei @ Jul 2 2008, 01:04 PM) i got the 2 that were connected by a bracket on the drivers side of the firewall between the battery and the steering wheel. so those are the wrong ones, i am lost, because every relay i think is the one i am looking for turns out to be something else. time to phone jersey, lol the one of those two that is closest to the fender should be the one you are looking for

QUOTE(oni_yuurei @ Jul 2 2008, 03:42 PM) so my next silly newb question, where is this alleged fuel pump test connector that the haynes manual ellude to/ its harder to find then the g-spot for a dwarf. its that thing you put the key in and turn forward to start the engine :P i've never heard of the fuel pump test connector unless it means the nipple on the end of the fuel rail. once you get the new relay in turn the key to the on position. don't crank it just yet. if you hear a buzz from under the back seat that's your fuel pump turning on. it will only last for 2 seconds so be ready to listen
