i put a new coil in first thing because when it died i tried shooting a little starting fluid in to see if it was not getting fuel...i.e. filter or pump.but it didn't fire so i checked for spark...no spark so my first thought was bad coil (before i was smart enough to do some searching and asking some questions) well it still had no spark so i thought i wonder if its getting gas. i did not hear the pump and i have good ears, like i hear it come on everytime i start the car unless its real loud around me.

so then i end up here and thanks to a lot of awesome people that are way smarter then me... while i still have yet to solve the problem (probly ecu).. i have learned a lot of stuff and i am better off because of it

i just really wanna be able to fix it, nothing like the pride of saying i did that...ya know? an i am poor white trash so even if i would let someone else work on it i dont have that kind of loot, an i already sunk more in her then i planned on...however its worth it. i love my car, she aint a gst or a gsx, but shes my baby. i cant let her go so i just gotta get smart enough to fix what ailes her. untill this my eclipse was one of the most dependable, nicest driving cars i had. i was never afraid to get in and drive several hundred miles away. only kinks were the tie-rod ends and a few suspension problems, i had just the very day before spent my whole tax stimulus check on getting my car back to handleing like a porsche, lol down to a front and rear allignment.

then to repay my love she pulled this on me, i always joke about my car being my wife...she must have overheard me and decided to play the part minus the nookie... however i am kinda screwed right now...so maybe i should retract that last part, lol

Check the cam and crank position sensors. If one of them is bad the car wont spark or give fuel. If my memory serves me correctly autozone can test the cam position sensor but not the crank.

well the cam sensor wouldnt be too hard to check i guess thanks for that idea bro.
the crank angle sensor well hell if i go through the trouble of taking half of my engine apart to get to it (and i know these cars are reknowned for that c.a.s. bein bad.) i may as well replace it anyway, lol so it dont bother me too much if they cant test it. if its not the culprit we will call it preventative maintenence.

i was just wishing i could avoid really tearing off into her like that. i dont have the best tools or spot to work on it. but if it must be done...wish in one hand take a dump in the other right?

not like i have anyone around to give me a hand so i appreciate the help.

i got to thinking and if it is the ecu...well there is probably something else that made it fry, like a sensor or something. like maybe that is what caused those ocaisional motor surges, like it only did it when i first started it and once it got to the end of the driveway it was always fine, so i kinda ignored it. i realize now that was kind of a warning sign. so if its a sensor and i replace the ecu who knows i may just fry the new ecu.

i wish i could check the e.c.u. itself, like if i had a friend with a 97 i could plug it into and see if it would start thier car ya know? it would save time and money.

and if it didn't start thier car i would know for sure it is the sensors, one or the other i would change both.

oh and i finally sobered up enough to realize i dont have a turbo, so i aint gotta take my timing belt off to get to the c.a.s. hell yeah. so thats next thing i will swap. but if it was the cam position sensor it wouldnt cut fuel an spark. it would make it run like **** because it would change the way it was injectin fuel but it would not keep it from getting fire and spark...i thought it was same with c.a.s. but i have heard of that one keeping it from firing an stuff.

i will go ahead and change them tomorrow if i can get ahold of some

If either one doesnt work it will cut spark and fuel from the car. They both need to be giving the ECU the proper signal saying they are both in the right position for the car to start. If one or the other says that the related part isnt in the right position it will cut the fuel and spark. The cam position sensor is a black box on the outside of your valve cover right in the front. Its 2 10 mm bolts and a plug and its off. The crank position sensor you can get from the bottom in the back if you jack up your car.
