So I was on my way to work this morning and suddenly my car sputtered and the service engine soon light came on. I was about 8 miles from my house so I turned around and headed home. When I stepped on the gas to turn around the car kind of sputtered again and didn't want to do anything I turned it off and let it sit a minute then started it back up. I was able to drive home by doing about 45 mph. My first thought was to take the injen intake off after I checked it to make sure everything was on tight. I actually decided to just pull it off and put the factory airbox back on. To my surprise it fixed the issue. Now my question, do you think I should take it to Mitsu and let them look at it or leave it be? I went ahead and drove to work after a quick test run and all seems to be good with the car. I drive about 50 miles to work one way.

Is this the first problem from Injen i hear? Let them look at it with stock on and then say, "I have this friend who has the Injen CAI and got this sputtering...blah blah blah..."

Well since the stock box is back on it the light went off, I wonder if the code is still sitting out there though. That would be pretty funny to watch them scratch their heads like "What is the deal, it shouldn't give that error."

How long have you had the Injen on?

Make sure ALL clamps and seals are air tight. One loose seal will only end in horror stories... well not really, but do you really want to find out for yourself?

I had it on for about 2000 miles or so. I think one of the clamps failed because when I took the one off that connects the hose to the main pipe where the MAFS sits I only had to twist the screwdriver 3 times and the whole clamp opened up completely. I am going to take it to Mitsu and let them check the error code and if all is good I will keep it stock for a couple of weeks and then slap it back on with some new clamps and give it go. But then again I may just sell it.

You mentioned that the clamp that connects the hose to the main pipe came off with 3 twists on your screwdriver. This is actually normal... All the clamps are the same size and the tubing where that clamp sits has the widest circumference. It's a bit of a stretch, but it will sit... and come off very easily.

One mistake my friend made was that the black silicon tubing that connected to the main pipe (which goes to the throttle body) was too far in. The main pipe has a lip at the end near the MAF sensor and the black tubing shouldn't go too far beyond that.

I still have issues with my filter touching my CVT cooler, but I check the filter often and I don't see any frays or melting spots on my hydroshield, so everything seems OK.

Do you have any pictures with the CAI still in? I'd like to take a closer look.

Oh come now, it can't be that bad! It's probably just a hose leak or something. Here's a look at mine when my friend helped me...

Notice how close the black hose gets to the MAF sensor mount? Here's another shot from Injen on what it really should look like...

Notice the difference?

How were you able to tighten the clamps for the throttle body? That's a really awkward position for them. There may have been a slight air leak there and with enough vibration, the seal might have become a little loose, allowing more air in. Plus, since the possible leak is AFTER the MAF sensor, the engine won't compensate properly.

This is all speculation though. It's not a 100% right answer.

I used a screwdriver to get them on and off. They were kind of a pain to get off so I don't know if that would have been the cause of not but it could have been. I have driven it for the past couple of days and so far had no problems so I am thinking of ripping off the bumper and putting it back on.

Well, I put them on with the screw pointing forward towards the battery a bit. This allowed me to stick the screwdriver in between the plug for the AT fluid and securely tighten the screw. I've had mine on for about a month and a half and I have no problems whatsoever. I check on the hydroshield every so often, but that's about it.

If you have no quarrels with ripping off the bumper again, I say go for it. You paid $300 for the intake... USE IT!

Question for you experts out there regarding the "Service Engine" warning.

I had my car check for the 7500 miles schedule about 2 weeks ago then my "Service Engine" warning light came on twice early today.

I know it might be to general a question to ask but do you guys might have any idea why it would do that for a car whose recently just been check?

thanks,

I would redirect this question to a new thread in the general section. Having the question posted in here....it won't get noticed.

Please indicate exactly what you had done at that service & we'll take it from there.
It could be something as simple as a loose gas car....if you don't click it 3 times when you put it on.......

I've had my intake for about a month and a half and every now and then the SES light comes on. It started happening right after i installed the CAI. But every time I park on a hill the light goes off for about 40 miles >.> Any suggestions?

Which CAI do you have? Make sure that all of your connections are tight & on correctly. That part has to be done periodically.
