You have to buy a new knob and loctite to use one the POS screw bolts to keep it from rattling loose

i bought a short shifter off ebay for 30 bucks. it was by seller rokucreations. i sawed off the top part of the shaft at the base and then cut the stock shifter like an inch below the threads. had to drill a 5/8" hole in base of short shifter and inserted a 5/8" rod into and then jb welded that to the hollow stock shifter. so now i have short throw with short shift height and stock shift knob. works like a dream and makes that nasty tall shifter look clean

A short shifter is designed to reduce the throw between shifts. Most short shifters are not much shorter in length than stock. The "short shifter hack" you speak of is a reduction of height. It will accomplish nothing other than looks.

yea cutting it doesnt make your throw shifter it makes your shifter shorter. the short throw makes the bottum peice of the shifter which puts the car into gear and out move farther with less movement of the knob or shifter.

+1^ cutting it will reduce the throw because it is shorter. Kinda like a 19 inch wheel will spin 80mph at the tire when driving 30mph compared to a 14inch wheel that spins 40mph at the tire when driving 30 mph.
