if the battery is junk the starter will click or chatter. replace the battery first. since you can jump the car it doesn't sound like the starter is bad

I tried starting the car and i keep hearing a cranking noise from the fuel pump.  so i think its the fuel pump.  and when we try to charge the battery, the battery keeps on going weird.  do i might think its the fuel pum and the battery.  so i will try those two first.  can u guys give me a site to find the fuel pump for a cheap price. no performance part fuel pum.

I suggest you also check the starter magnetic coil, sometime when the starter can't clank is not only due to battery failed, it may also due to

1) starter magnetic coil failed. When magnetic coil failed it will not engage the starter shaft to drive start engine.
2) starter cable inner corrosion and cause current resistance.
3) Check your battery negative cable did the ground connected firmly or it corrosion.

The only responsible of a alternator is just to generate electricity to support all your car electricla appliance and recharge your battery. it may not the ideal to check your alternator.
