Ok so my '94 Galant has been making a ticking noise since the day i got it. I have read the post suggesting that this is the hydraulic lifters and I now have some questions that perhaps someone could help with:

1. Is there any other reason a 6A12 may make such a noise, in time with the revs?

2. What is the price of replacing the lifters? roughly... and yes I'm aware it may cost lots.

3. What is involved and how difficult is it to replace them? I have plenty of experience rebuilding engines, admittedly not mitsubishi engines but the same idea.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and i tried some lifter noise remover additive but it seems to have made the problem worse.

It all depends if its a DOCH 6A12 or the SOCH 6A12 , If its the SOCH 6A12 which it most likely will be the hydraulic valve lifters are in the rocker arms and require removal of the rocker arm assemblies and the complete rocker arm purchased , as for the hydraulic lifter is part of the rocker arm.

On the DOCH 6A12 a more drastic tear down is required , both exhaust and intake cam removal , and the cam followers , and the hydraulic lifters sit in the cylinder head under the cam follower and can usually be pulled out easily with pliers , gently grabbing the head of the lifter and pushing down and little then upward.

Yeah sum people try additives or any other "magic elixer" to be found , but when there is valvetrain noise its usually there for teh long haul until it gets sorted out.
